New 59th Assembly representative sworn into office

On Jan. 5, Rep. Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum)

took the oath of office and was officially sworn in
to the 102nd Wisconsin Legislature, filling the
shoes of retired Representative Dan LeMahieu (RCascade). Rep. Kremer is one of 63 Republicans
who will be representing the Assembly during the
2015-2016 legislative sessionthe largest majority
since 1957.
Rep. Kremer, a 37-year-old political newcomer,
was joined at the inaugural ceremony by his wife
Janet, daughters Keturah (age 11), Miriam (9) and
Michaiah (5), as well as parents Reynold and
Edith, in-laws Rod and Barb, brother-in-law Mark
and brothers familySeth, Alycia, Ephraim,
Zipporah and Hezekiah.
I have always enjoyed volunteer public service, and was encouraged to run for State Assembly
by watching the great strides Wisconsin has taken
since Governor Walker took office four years ago,
said Rep. Kremer. It is my honor to serve the people of the 59th Assembly District, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the legislature to keep moving Wisconsin forward.
For the 2015-16 session Rep. Kremer has been
appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the Public
Safety and Criminal Justice Committee. My extensive experience in the public safety arena, including my service as a Wisconsin National Guard war

This year taxpayers will have to tackle
the complexities involved with provisions
of the Affordable Care Act, as well as
complex changes in depreciation for
rental property owners and businesses.

an Enrolled Agent (EA).
While many CPAs do tax work, most

audits and general accounting. EAs all
specialize in taxation. To earn the EA
license, they must pass a stringent threepart exam administered by the IRS that
covers individual taxes, business taxes
and representation of clients before the
IRS, or have relevant experience as a former IRS employee. EAs, CPAs and tax
attorneys all have unlimited rights of representation in IRS audits, collections, and
appeals, but only EAs receive their licens-

es from the federal government. They are

often referred to as "Americas tax
experts."
In order to keep up with the constantly
changing tax code, EAs are required to
complete 72 hours of continuing professional education in each three year
"enrollment cycle." Members of the
National Association of Enrolled Agents
(NAEA) must go beyond the IRS requirement and complete 90 hours in the same
time period.

Boys basketball: Falls rallies past West

The Menomonee Falls boys basketball
team started the new year with a win Jan. 3,
as the Indians built on a third quarter lead
against West Bend West for a 54-43 victory.
The teams entered halftime tied 17-17.
Menomonee Falls started the third quarter
with a 7-2 run to take a 24-19 lead following
a layup by Bryce McMurtry with under 6:50
left in the quarter. A nine point run gave
Menomonee Falls a 36-27 lead after two
free throws were converted at the 1:22
mark.
But West rallied and cut the lead to 4543 after Joe Peplinski converted a three-point
basket with 2:27 remaining in the game. But
McMurtry converted two free throws at the
other end. McMurtry, Ty Weber and
Dontrelle Handy converted free throws with

less than 42 seconds remaining to secure the

victory.
McMurtry led all scorers with 16 points
while Matt Koerner led West with 15 points.
West returned to Wisconsin Little Ten
Conference play Jan. 6 with a 65-43 loss to
Beaver Dam, Koerner led West with 11
points. Afterward, West had a 1-3 conference record and a 2-9 overall mark.
Also on Jan. 6, Slinger beat West Bend
East 62-46. Jesse Bellefeuil led Slinger with
16 points while Seth Shrank led East with 12
points. Afterward, Slinger was tied with
Wisconsin Lutheran with a 4-0 conference
record and a 7-3 overall mark. East had a 13 conference record and a 2-8 overall mark.

Frank Mittlestadts
Original Bird Art at
Schauer Center
Beaver Dam artist Frank Mittlestadt will be
his exhibiting his work in the Suckow Family Art
Gallery at the Schauer Center from Friday, Jan.
16 through Feb. 15.
Mittlestadt is best known for his meticulously
detailed bird and nature scenes on wooden
cabinetry. The self-taught artist finds inspiration
in his own backyard, the lake and marshes that
surround his home. Whether working in acrylics,
oils, pastels or pencils, Frank always strives for
the most accurate portrayals of the natural
world.
A free reception will be held Friday, Jan. 16,
2015 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., prior to Forever
Plaid. Guests will have an opportunity to meet
the artist and view the exhibit. Cash bar and
light refreshments are available. Artwork is
available for purchase, unless noted.
Mittlestadts exhibit will be on display from
Jan. 9 through Feb. 15. The Suckow Family Art
Gallery is located on the second level of the
Schauer Center at 147 N. Rural Street in
Hartford. Gallery hours are Monday through
