Have you heard of the Draper SCC (School Community

Council)? Do you wonder what part we play in our school? We
want you to know because what
our council does each year is for
the benefit of YOUR student! The
state of Utah has a permanent
school fund, like an endowment.
The interest and dividends are
distributed to each school every
year to help support education at
that particular school. Utah is the
ONLY state that allows local
control of trust funds. Our SCC
consists of elected parents and teachers as well as our
principal, Mrs. Riddle. We work together to decide how Draper
Elementary uses these funds received from the LAND trust
each year. Visit schoollandtrust.org/school-trust/program to
learn more!

Draper Dragon Honors

January proved to be a busy month at Draper Elementary.

In tandem with our instructional initiatives, students in Grades
4 and 5 participated in our school Geography Bee and Science
Fair. Our Geography Bee winner, Wesley Dalton, will be
moving on to our district bee, our Science Fair winners, Kate
Gavin, Zoe Sprague, and Lily Maddox will be moving on to the
District fair Lily Hall took first place at the region Reflections
art contest in the music category. Her entry will be moving on
to the state competition.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
and Book Fair This Week
We are looking forward to parentteacher conferences this week, Feb.
2 and 4, to share the achievements
of our students. The Book Fair is
open Feb. 2 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. in
the Kiva, and again on Feb. 4 from
8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Kiva.

Box Tops Contest Winners
Keep collecting your Box Tops and Labels for Education. Our
second contest is now underway and ends in February. The
class collecting the most Box Tops wins a party from the PTA.

Principals Message
It is hard to believe we have arrived at the
100th day of school (Feb. 4) and are nearing
the end of the second trimester (Feb.
26)! We would like to thank all of our
volunteers that have contributed so much to
our schools learning and activities this past
term. From our Parent Career Day to our
Artyology volunteers to the daily classroom
supports we see from volunteers who assist
our classes in a variety of ways, we send
you all a hearty thank you for your time
and efforts.
We are also looking forward to our
schoolwide Chinese New Year cultural
celebration on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m., and our
classroom Valentines Day parties on Friday,
Feb. 13. The students always enjoy the
planned activities and treats! I would like to
extend a heartfelt thank you to our Room
Parent Coordinators and the numerous
parents who will help make these parties
special for our students!
We are so excited for Parent Teacher
Conferences! This is a favorite time of the
year when we get to share students'
progress and successes with their parents.
We are fortunate to have both teachers and
families that are committed to student
learning and growth. Working as a team, we
are confident that all of our students will
learn the necessary skills by the end of the
school year. Thank you to our many
volunteers who support the conferences by
providing dinner for our teachers, and for
those who make the book fair possible.

Report cards will be sent home on March 2.

Thank you for all that you do to support
your child and our schools efforts it is
this continuing partnership between home
and school that makes the success of all
Draper students possible.
Our best to you and your families,
Mrs. Piper Riddle, Principal

Dads & Donuts is Feb. 12

This months Dads & Donuts is Thursday, Feb. 12, from
8-8:30 a.m. in the Gym. Students are invited to bring their
dads or any other adult to read with them. Thanks to the PTA
who provides milk and donuts.

Fifth-Grade Maturation Programs This Month

To help start conversations about health, wellness and the

maturation process, Canyons District has developed an
informational program for students and their parents.
Fifth-grade boys and girls and their parents are invited to
attend maturation programs by professional presenters. We
encourage all parents and their children to attend these free
events together so conversations can continue in the home.
The aim with this program, which supplants the fifth-grade
maturation days that previously were held at each individual
school, is to provide consistent, sensitive and approved
maturation instruction districtwide.
The girls program is Feb. 10 and the boys program is Feb.
11. Both programs will be held at 7 p.m. at Draper Park
Middle School, 13133 South 1300 E.
Draper Park invites any incoming sixth graders to come
see the school, plus complete the registration process from
5:30-7 p.m. on both nights.
