Brother's Brother Foundation (BBF) is responding to the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on
January 12, 2010 with partner agency, Food For The Poor in Miami. BBF is sending requested
surgical packs donated by MedWish (Cleveland), medical supplies and hygiene items on Tuesday,
January 19, 2010. Container will be loaded at 10:00 am at BBF's warehouse at 1200 Galveston
Avenue. A second 53' tractor trailer should be leaving later this week.
BBF sent its first shipment today by air of requested antibiotics, surgical packs, surgical instruments
and other requested medical items. Donors of these medical supplies and pharmaceuticals included
Mylan Pharmaceuticals and Teva Pharmaceuticals. BBF's Medical Director, Dr. Chip Lambert, is
escorting this shipment to Haiti.
BBF is also collecting monetary donations. You can donate securely online from the online donation
form using a credit card. You can also send a check payable to Brother's Brother Foundation. Please
note on your donation that it is for the Haiti earthquake relief fund. BBF is NOT collecting
used/new clothing or shoes at the moment. It is also NOT collecting medicines or other medical
supplies from individuals for Haiti. Please call BBF's office at 412-321-3160 with any questions you
may have.
BBF, a 50-year old Pittsburgh-based international charity, has provided over $3.4 billion of medical
supplies, textbooks, food, seeds, and other humanitarian supplies to people around the world in over
140 countries. With the help of gifts from the general public, corporations and the US government,
in 2009 BBF sent product contributions to those in need in 70 countries including Argentina,
Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Malawi,
Nicaragua, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda and Vietnam. These shipments were the equivalent of 319
tractor trailer loads. Also in 2009, BBF furnished supplies for 265 medical and humanitarian hand-
carry mission trips.
BBF earned Charity Navigator's seventh consecutive 4-star rating for BBF's ability to efficiently manage and
grow its finances. Forbes Magazine, in this year's Investment Guide, once again noted BBF's efficiency with a
100% rating for fundraising efficiency and charitable commitment. BBF expects to be noted by Forbes again
in early December. The Better Business Bureau again gave BBF its “Wise Giving Alliance Standards” seal of
approval.
