The Red Hawks Junior Football Club Newsletter
Edition 1 April 2015
PRESIDENTS WELCOME
Welcome to the Yanchep District Junior Football Clubs first newsletter for 2015. I extend a big welcome to our players, parents,
volunteers and sponsors, both new and old.
This year we are expecting approximately 280 players from Auskick up to our Year 11 age group team. We seem to be finding it hard
to break the 300 plus members, with lots of competition coming from Junior Soccer in particular.
The following activities and preparation for the coming season have been happening over the last few months:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
The new Oldham Oval building extension is soon to commence construction. Please be aware of the restricted access areas
whilst this is being built, including relocating the kids sandpit and swings.
Player back packs and bags have arrived as part of the Year4-11 Membership Packages, and are available for collection once
fees have been paid. We have rewarded the Clubs two major sponsors over the last few years (IHLS and WAIMA) with
business logos on these bags.
Our Club Registration Day, whilst quieter than previous years due to the push by WAFC to have more online registrations,
was still well supported by new Club members and the younger age groups. A big thank you to all the helpers on the day.
We kicked the Club fundraising program off with a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Mindarie, raising over $1,000 for the day. Once
again, a big thank you to all helpers on the day.
Our Committee positions are all filled, albeit it would be welcomed to have more General Committee helpers available to
support major Club functions and activities. We are definitely seeking more helpers to assist with sponsorship and grants.
We welcome Bec and Michelle for taking on Gala Day Co-ordinators, and Chrissy for Website Manager. Also, Dee Wirth who
has taken up Canteen Manager. Thank you all for volunteering for these positions.
The Club had a stall at the recent Club Capricorn Festival at Two Rocks, with a few new members signing up. Again, thank
you to the helpers on the day.
The Club has experienced many teething issues with the push to do online registrations. A big thank you to Sue, Sam and
Jamie for extended patience in sorting out many of the system constraints and problems on Sporting Pulse.
Team Coaches have been busy attending conferences/accreditations/forums in readiness for the coming season, along with
getting training programs underway.
The Perth Football Club held a Talent Day on April 16th at Oldham Oval for Years 8/9/10/11 year groups.
We are looking at holding a Quiz Night mid-year. Dates/venue/format will follow in the next newsletter.
Our Gala Day will be rebadged and replaced with a Community Fete/Festival Day, planned for late August (NO confirmed
date yet).
The Clubs Bronze Quality Club has expired, and we will target Gold Quality Club status, including completion of the Clubs
First Strategic Plan.
The Club will introduce a Coach of the Year Award in honour and memory of the late Kane Hicks.
The Club will continue its effort to stamp out unacceptable behaviours by players and parents within our Club.
A big push to be more electronic in newsletters, advertising etc. through either website, Facebook, team apps or SMS
messaging. This cuts considerable costs and volunteer time down using these communication forums.
Sponsorship drive to seek support in: a) replacing goal post padding; and b) purchasing new equipment cart/trolley.
We are revamping our Open Rules Vote Count Night to be a semi-formal evening and to also include our Appreciation Evening
with Volunteers and Sponsors. This is currently being worked on and more details will follow in due course.
The Club will run the Cadbury Chocolate fundraising campaign again this year, with ALL profits returned to the teams who
sell the chocolates.
I ask all players and parents to get behind your Coach and team volunteers, and look forward to a fun season, played in good spirits
and exceptional sportsmanship.
Many thanks,
Michael Browne

FUNDRAISING
Our first sausage sizzle fundraiser was held at Bunnings Mindarie in February. We raised over $1,000. Thanks go out to Ken and Janet
Clutterbuck for arranging this together with Sharon Egan, Michael, Stephanie, Layton, Caleb and Riley Browne, Harold Ball, Katrina
Jaques, Lauren Ball and Amanda Jeffrey. A good effort.
Another two sausage sizzles will be held on 30th May at Bunnings Mindarie and Saturday 8th August at Masters in Butler. Please let a
member of the Committee know if you are available to help out on the day even if it is only for an hour it would be much appreciated
to see some new faces helping out at these fundraisers.
ANZAC DAY
All Yanchep Districts Junior Football players and families are invited to attend the ANZAC Parade at Yanchep National Park on Saturday
25th April. Meet at 10am.
This is a great opportunity to support our Community and celebrate the ANZAC tradition.
Please wear your Club colours and you could win $200 for the team with the highest percentage of players in attendance.

YEAR 4 OSPREYS
The Year 4 Ospreys had our first team meeting including jumper presentations and it was fantastic to see all members of the team
attend. A massive thanks to all the parents that attended and volunteered for roles. A special mention to Jason for taking on the role
of Assistant Coach and to Sean for stepping up as our first parent umpire (for which we still need one more).
We are looking forward to an awesome season.
Thanks
Justin - Year 4 Ospreys Coach
AUSKICK
Auskick parents and guardians - welcome back to another season of Auskick at YDJFC. We are super excited to kick off the season for
2015. Firstly, Jamie has come back on board for the season as our Auskick Administrative Co-ordinator, after a year away, in
conjunction with the fantastic Jason Glover who will over-see the practical side of the program.
If you have any questions, please make an attempt to direct them to Jamie, who can be contacted on:

Auskick Training will run on a Saturday morning from 10:30 am till 12 noon, please be aware we start at 10:30 so this is not a suitable
time to be arriving as your child may be left behind in drills/warm ups.
The first session will commence on Saturday 2nd May. Packs will also be handed out at this session for those who have paid their fees
in full.
For anyone who still needs to register, please head to the Nab AFL Auskick Site and do so. We are also still in search of Coaches and
Assistants. If you are interested in helping out in this area, please contact Jamie ASAP!
Thanks
