INTRODUCTION

Engine removal is process of removing the engine for certain reasons.

Reasorns for engine removal are the engine life span or time before overhaul
(TBO) which is determined by the manufacture of the engine. Besides that,
sudden speed reduction , sudden stoppage , metal particles in oil and
unstable engine operation are also the main reason of engine removal. This
process must be accomplished in an order manner to prevent personal injury
or damage to the aircraft. The procedure are also varies with the engine
models and the process must always follow the manufactures instruction
and manual. This process must be done in ventilated area.

TOOLS
A set of screwdriver, hydraulic lifter, choke, set off wrenches, hammer , a
hoist

PROCEDURES
ALWAYS FOLLOW MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTION AND AIRCRAFT MANUAL
1. Take a choke and choke all the aircraft wheel to prevent the aircraft
from moving during the engine removal process.
2. The tail of the aircraft should be supported to prevent the aircraft from
tipping back when the engine is removed
3. Shock strut may need to be deflated to prevent over extansion once
engine weight is remove from the aircraft
4. Make sure all the magneto switch is in off position and all the fuel shut
off valve in close position.
5. Remove the engine cowling, battery connection and remove at least 1
spark plug from each cylinder to prevent from kicking back.
6. Remove the propeller, when spark plug is remove, propeller can easily
turn.
7. Disconnect all of the electrical and fluid line connection
8. Remove air intake and the exhaust connection
9. Remove the engine control connection typically rods and cable type of
connection
10.
Make sure hoist the engine in the correct engine hoisting point
and raise the engine just to remove weight from the engine mount.
11.
Remove all the engine mounts attachment nuts and before the
last nut remove, make sure the engine is steadied and secure position
12.
Than, slowly jack the engine upward using the hydraulic lifter.
13.
Do not put the engine in the floor.
14.
Check for corrosion in the engine cassis

15.
16.
17.

Report if there is corrosion occur in the cassis.

Check all of the engine mount
Replace the broken nuts and screw

CONCLUSION
Engine removal is a major task and must follow the manufacturers
instruction. There are many factors that comes into play when
determine the engine life. The factors are the engine life span , sudden
stoppage, sudden speed reduction ,metals particles in oil and unstable
engine operation . the process must be done in orderly to prevent
injury to personal and damge to the aircraft.the procedure must be
varies with the engine models and removing the engine must always
follow the manufacture manual
