The main UFSC campus is located in the Trindade neighborhood on the

island of Florianpolis, and occupies an area of more than 2.000,0000
hectares. The administrative offices and eleven teaching centers are
located on this campus, as well as the University Library building, the
University Restaurant building, several research laboratories, the Colgio de
Aplicao (high school, elementary and infant education) and the Ncleo de
Desenvolvimento Infantil (nursery school).
Activities related to the Center for Agricultural Sciences are developed in
the Itacorubi neighborhood, located at 3.6 km from the main campus.
The Ararangu campus is located 214 km south of Florianpolis. Currently,
this campus offers four undergraduate courses.
The Curitibanos campus is located 302 km west of Florianpolis. Currently,
this campus offers four undergraduate courses, all related to the field of
agricultural sciences.
The Joinville campus is located 177 km north of Florianpolis. Currently,
this campus offers nine undergraduate courses related to the field of
engineering.

UFSC: A University for all

The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina's (UFSC)
main campus is located in Florianpolis, capital of
th
Santa Catarina state. Founded on December 18 ,
1960, with the goal of promoting teaching, research
and extension, UFSC is a free and public university,
valued as the fifth best in Brazil, the sixth in Latin
American and the 205th in the world, according to the
Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, 2013.
From the 1980's onwards, the public institution began
to invest intensively in the expansion of graduate
courses and on research, in addition to supporting the
creation of technology centers in the state of Santa

Catarina and the development of a series of social

projects.
Currently, UFSC has over 35.000 students enrolled in
undergraduate and graduate programs; distance,
technical, elementary and infant education; and high
school. It also has about 3.000 administrative staff
and more than 2.000 faculty members, the vast
majority of them with doctoral degrees.
Moreover, the University grants more than 10.000
scholarships to undergraduate students and has a
library with more than 600.000 publications.

In 2009, the University increased its education

opportunities by creating three campuses in other
cities of Santa Catarina: Ararangu, Curitibanos and
Joinville. In addition, UFSC has been focusing on
internationalizing itself through cooperation with
educational institutions around the world. UFSC has
more than 300 active international agreements with
38 countries.
Committing itself to excellence and solidarity has
helped UFSC achieve high levels of general
qualification, participating in the construction of a
more just and democratic society.

SANTA CATARINA

Florianpolis, the capital of Santa Catarina, also known

by its nickname Floripa, offers the comfort of a
developed urban center whilst maintaining its intimate
contact with nature. Sea, hill-sides and more than 42
beaches all make this wonderfully conserved scenery.

Most of the city lies on the long slender Santa Catarina

island, which is 54 km long and 18 km wide. The city's
population, according to the census conducted in 2011,
is 427,298 residents. Tourism forms the basis of the
local economy, causing the population to triple during
summer months.
