POEMS ON INDEPENDENCE

Composed by Bioprocess Harbant

A CHILDS DREAM
MEREDEKA in my dream
Right or wrong, true or false,
May be I am wrong,
I saw Merdeka in my dream.
I saw birds flying and singing in the air,
I saw clouds shadowing the sky,
I saw the sunrise brightening the day,
I saw people dancing and merry-making,
I saw an atmosphere of peace surrounding me,
I saw Malaysia as a developed nation.
I wish my dream is true,
Or, I keep my dream in my lonely heart
Be there as my sweet memory.

MALAYSIA LAND OF GLORY

Oh Malaysia,
land of glory and sunshine,
I greet thee with salutation.
Your mountains, valleys and forest
Remind me of the beauty of Nature
Your people show love, joy and progress,
They form a mosaic of different cultures.
Your children reflect the moon and stars of tomorrow
That will take the country to greater heights.
Your development in science, education, commerce, and
technology
Brings pride to all.
Indeed you are great Oh Malaysia
A land of peace, prosperity, and glory,
I humbly bow before thee.

MERDEKA DAY

From afar
I could see
Tunku Abdul Rahman
Raising up his hand
Announcing
'Merdeka!Merdeka!Merdeka!'
The audience cheered wildly
A new country was born
Malaysia is its name
Fated to be famous
Fated to be admired
By other nations
For the unity, peace and harmony
That its citizens
enjoy.

But,
We have not been freed yet
We are still living
Under the ugly face of modernisation
Our young adults still live in rehabilitation centres
For misusing drugs and sniffing glues
Our young adults still commit crimes

As though
It is just a hobby for them
They like to lepak-lepak at shopping malls
and racing motor-bikes at empty streets
While their parents are sleeping soundly
On their warm beds.

Wake up
My children
Open your eyes
Be wise
Be strong
For there is still hope
For us.

M E R D E K A D AY

Our respected headmaster,

Senior assistants,
teachers and my fellow friends.
Assalammualaikum and very good morning
Hello everybody! I am Shukirah. How are you today? I hope that
all of you are in the pink of health.
As you all know, Independence Day or commonly known to us
Malaysians, Merdeka Day, is just around the corner. Isn't that
fantastic?
Every year, on 31st August, Malaysians celebrate this glorious
day. On this day, fourty eight years ago, the Union Jack flag was
lowered for the final time and Malaysians are now freed from the
British colonisers!
Between the years 1955-57, the Tunku and his cabinet prepared
the Malayan Constitution, discussed the administration of justice,
cemented racial harmony in the country and resolved to beat the
Communists. Finally, Tunku Abdul Rahman led the nation when he
shouted Merdeka seven times at the newly-built Merdeka
Stadium on 31 August 1957.
We have gained independence! Now we are free to follow
whatever path and destiny that we choose for our country and
nobody is going to steal our natural resources and wealth. Nobody
is going to colonise our country ever again.
Hence, it is important for us to appreciate Merdeka Day and be
united regardless of our religion and race. Remember, everybody,
if we are not united we would be conquered again by other
countries. We want to be free, forever!
Thank you very much.
