In this beautiful occasion and also on October 28 we are commemorating Youth Pledge Day, so I would
like to tell you the story that can giving spirit to all Indonesia Youth with the title “The Story Of
Mohammad Yamin”

In the heart of Indonesia's history, where the struggle for independence burned brightly, there was a
man named Mohammad Yamin, known as Moh. Yamin. He was a true patriot and a symbol of the
Indonesian spirit during the fight for freedom.

Yamin was born on August 16, 1903, in the village of Talawi, nestled amid the breathtaking landscapes
of West Sumatra. His early life was filled with curiosity and a passion for knowledge, traits that would
shape his remarkable journey.

Yamin's father, a teacher, recognized his potential and nurtured his intellectual growth. Young Yamin
flourished under his guidance and developed a love for literature and learning.

As he matured, Yamin embarked on a journey to Batavia, the capital of the Dutch East Indies, where he
would come face to face with the world of ideas and the burgeoning nationalistic movement. It was here
that his path took a crucial turn.

In the bustling city, Yamin's passion for change found an outlet in the written word. He began writing
articles for newspapers and magazines, eloquently expressing the aspirations of a nation yearning for
independence. His powerful words resonated with many, making him a voice of hope and unity.

The turning point in Yamin's life came in 1928 when he participated in the Second Youth Congress. It
was a historic gathering, where young minds from different corners of the archipelago united under one
banner—the banner of independence.
The congress gave birth to the historic Youth Pledge. Yamin, along with other young patriots, pledged to
work together to uphold the Indonesian motherland, language, and nation. This pledge became a sacred
vow that would inspire future generations to fight for freedom.

Yamin was not just a patriot; he was also a poet. His most famous work, "Indonesia Pusaka," spoke of his
love for the motherland and the pride he felt for his culture. His words had the power to inspire and
unite, becoming an anthem for the Indonesian people.

As the struggle for independence intensified, Yamin's role deepened. He traveled internationally to
represent Indonesia and its aspirations for sovereignty. He played a crucial part in the crafting of
Pancasila, the five principles that form the philosophical foundation of the Indonesian state. These
principles encompass justice, humanity, democracy, and belief in one Almighty God.
Yamin's journey was not without its share of hardships. He faced challenges and setbacks, but his
dedication to the cause of Indonesian independence never wavered. He was a symbol of unwavering
commitment and determination.

Moh. Yamin's legacy endures, and he symbolizes the spirit of the Indonesian people. His legacy lives on,
continuing to inspire generations of Indonesians to strive for a better future.
