WORDS OF WELCOME
CHAPEL HYMN
Lead, kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom,
Lead thou me on ;
The night is dark, and I am far from home ;
Lead thou me on.
Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene, one step enough for me.
I was not ever thus, nor prayed that thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead thou me on.
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will: remember not past years.
So long thy power hath blessed me, sure it still
Will lead me on,
Oer moor and fen, oer crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile.
Words: Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman
Tune: Lux Benigna (John Bacchus Dykes)

The Legacy of the Robin Chapel

(Julian Birchall, Chairman of the Thistle Trust)
The gift of The Sovereign's Standard of The Blues and Royals to the Robin
Chapel. (Colonel SC Tomes, late The Blues and Royals)
The Trumpeters from the west end of the chapel sound the Royal Salute.
The Standard Party will have formed at the front door of the chapel and
will move forward to the Chaplain's stall, approaching the altar table,
whilst the regimental slow march is played, the congregation standing.

The Chaplain shall say:

We are gathered in this, the Robin Chapel, to lay up this Sovereigns
Standard of The Blues and Royals. No more fitting place could be found
wherein to deposit this emblem of Duty and Service than the House of
God, where praise and prayer are wont to be made.
The Warrant Officer bearing the Standard and Colonel Tomes then take
the Standard to the altar steps.
The Colonel shall then say:
This consecrated Standard formerly carried in the service of The Queen
and Commonwealth, I now deliver into your hands for safe custody
within these walls.
The Colonel hands over the Standard to the Chaplain who will reply:
I receive this Standard for safe custody within this Chapel.
The Standard is placed on the Altar and this done the DACG will lead the
following prayers :
Let us pray.
Almighty God, Lord of Hosts, we now lay up within this House of Prayer,
this emblem of Thy Grace and Blessing. May all who look upon this be
reminded of their duty to God, their Queen and their Country, for Jesus
Christ's sake. Amen.
O Almighty Lord and Everlasting God, vouchsafe we beseech thee, to
direct, sanctify, and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of thy
Laws in the works of thy Commandments, that through thy most mighty
protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul,
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
The Trumpeters sound the Last Post from the west end of the chapel and
the Blessing is then given.
All sing the NATIONAL ANTHEM (arr. Sir Edward Elgar) after which, the
Standard Party will march down the aisle.

METRICAL PSALM 46:1-7

God is our refuge and our strength,
In straits a present aid;
Therefore, although the earth remove,
We will not be afraid:
Though hills amidst the seas be cast;
Though waters roaring make,
And troubled be; yea, though the hills,
By swelling seas do shake.
A river is, whose streams do glad
The city of our God;
The holy place, wherein the Lord
Most high hath his abode.
God in the midst of her doth dwell;
Nothing shall her remove:
The Lord to her an helper will,
And that right early, prove.
The Lord of hosts upon our side
Doth constantly remain:
The God of Jacob's our refuge,
Us safely to maintain.
Tune: Stroudwater, (Wilkins Psalmody, c.1730)

FIRST LESSON Psalm 24

read by Lt. Col. Neil Morrison OBE JP, Trustee
MAGNIFICAT sung by the choir
My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit hath rejoiced in God
my Saviour. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For he that is mighty hath magnified me and holy is his Name. And
his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations. He
hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in
the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from

their seat and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled
the hungry with good things and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel: as he
promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever. Glory
be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in
the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
Setting by Sir George Dyson, in D

SECOND LESSON John 12:20-32

read by Colonel SC Tomes, late The Blues and Royals
NUNC DIMITTIS sung by the choir
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to
thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation; Which thou hast
prepared : before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the
Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the
beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
Setting by Sir George Dyson, in D

THE CONFESSION OF FAITH

We believe that God is Spirit,
And they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
We believe that God is Light,
And if we walk in the Light, as He is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another.
We believe that God is Love,
And everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God,
And that God hath given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
We believe that we are children of God,
And that He hath given us of His Spirit.
We believe that, if we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.
We believe that the world passeth away, and the lust thereof,
But he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever

ANTHEM sung by the choir

Faire is the heaven where happy soules have place In full
enjoyment of felicitie; Whence they do still behold the glorious
face Of the Divine, Eternall Majestie; Yet farre more faire be
those bright Cherubins Which all with golden wings are
overdight. And those eternall burning Seraphins Which from
their faces dart out fiery light; Yet fairer than they both and
much more bright Be the Angels and Archangels Which attend
on God's owne person without rest or end. These then in faire
each other farre excelling As to the Highest they approach
more neare, Yet is that Highest farre beyond all telling Fairer
than all the rest which there appeare Though all their beauties
joynd together were; How then can mortal tongue hope to
expresse The image of such endlesse perfectnesse?
Words: Edmund Spenser
Music: Sir William Harris

Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of your presence open the mind of God
to us, that in your light we may see light, and in your strength be strong.
Amen.
SERMON DACG Revd. Cole Maynard CF
Let us pray and thank God for his goodness.
Generous God, we give you thanks for the richness of life; for the
beauty and wonder of the world, and for the care of those who love
us. We bless you for the gift of Jesus Christ your son, our Lord, for
the indwelling of your Holy Spirit; and for strength and hope in the
trials and difficulties of life. We thank you for this place of worship,
The Robin Chapel, and for your everlasting presence. Amen.
PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
After each petition:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Almighty God our Heavenly Father, You promised through your Son to
hear us when we pray in faith: Strengthen your church in the service of
Christ; that those who confess your name may be united in your truth,
live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
Bless and guide Elizabeth our Queen, give wisdom to all in authority; and
direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we
may honour one another and seek the common good.
Give grace to us our families and friends, to all who work and serve the
Thistle Foundation and all the communities gathered here; that we may
serve one another, and love as he loves us.
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit, give them
courage and hope in their troubles and bring them with us to the joys of
salvation. Hear us as we remember and pray for those who have died,
that they may rest from their labours and be at peace with you, our Lord,
and our God.
At the end:
Accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our saviour Jesus
Christ. Amen.
THE LORDS PRAYER setting by John Farmer
THE PRAYER OF KING HENRY VI
O Lord Jesus Christ, who hast created and redeemed me, and hast
brought me hither where I am: Thou knowest what Thou wouldst
do with me. Do with me according to Thy will, with mercy. Amen.
HYMN
Who would true valour see,
Let him come hither;
One here will constant be,
Come wind, come weather;
Theres no discouragement
Shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim.

Whoso beset him round

With dismal stories,
Do but themselves confound,
His strength the more is.
No lion can him fright:
Hell with a giant fight,
But he will have the right
To be a pilgrim.
Hobgoblin nor foul fiend
Can daunt his spirit;
He knows he at the end
Shall life inherit.
Then, fancies, fly away;
Hell fear not what men say,
Hell labour night and day
To be a pilgrim.
Words: John Bunyan
Tune: Monks Gate (Trad. Sussex, arr. R. Vaughan Williams; Descant by Simon Nieminski)

mount up with wings as eagles, in thy name, who livest and reignest with
the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
