Message from PTO

October Birthday
20th Mrs. Brooks 4th grade

Thank you so much for your support and

donations for this years Boosterthon
Fun Run! The students enjoyed learning
about Big World Recess and interacting
with the Boosterthon Team. They did
an amazing job at the Fun Run and it was
wonderful to have so many
parents/relatives there to show their
support.

Go Wildcats!

Wonderful
Wednesday

4th and 5th graders, along with

PTO, will be hosting a luncheon for
our staff on the 21st. Volunteers
will be needed to assist in the
cafeteria during lunch. If you are
interested in volunteering and/or
joining the Wonderful Wednesday
committee, please email Kristen
Shaver.

Please join us at Chick-fil-A in

Indian Trail on 10/27 for our
2nd Spirit Night!
More details will be available soon.

Flip Flops Needed!

The front office is in need of
flip flops (especially small adult
sizes) because occasionally,
students will come to the office
with broken shoes and have none
to replace them without calling a
parent to bring a new pair.
Please help the Wildcat Wardrobe
closet by donating flip flops!
Thank you!!!

Staff Spotlight for October

Mrs. Podpora 5th Grade Teacher
Hometown: Buffalo, New York
Name of your 5th grade teacher: Mrs. Holloran
What city would you like to visit? Salzburg, Austria
Favorite sport/teams to watch: New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox baseball
How many years at Fairview: 10 years...thanks to Mrs. Smith! :) We worked together in CMS and she was the one
who got me the interview. The grass IS greener on the other side!
Where did you go to college? Daemen College, B.S. Elementary Education; UNC-Charlotte, M. Ed. Reading
Education and Certification in AIG
Why did you become a teacher? I have always wanted to be a teacher. I used to play school in my room with my
friends and younger brother. I love school and consider myself to be a lifelong learner. I am always reading up on
ways to improve. I've had several outstanding teachers and mentors over the years that have made me who I am
today. I hope that I am doing the same for my own students. I love when a former student or parent tells me the
impact I have had on their life. It truly touches my heart that I have touched theirs.
What is the most rewarding part of being a teacher? Having a former student and/or parents tell you what a
difference you have made in their life. As a teacher, I hope to make a difference or teach my students life
lessons as some of my former teachers have taught me. You don't always see the impact you have made until you
see them later while by chance or on purpose. I love that I have helped make them a better person by what I have
said or done. I also love that "I did it" moment a student has when they finally do get it! Even just a smile on
their face or the light in their eyes makes it all worth while.
What do you enjoy when youre not at school? I love to spend time with my family and friends. I love to
scrapbook and do all kinds of crafts. I also like to read and listen to music.
Which staff member would you like to spotlight next month? Send your vote via email!
