COMMUNITY
FREE CHURCH

WEEKLY
This Gospel is the only message that can save lives. The world
is a crazy place right now that seems to be turning upside down,
but a political movement isnt the answer. A new diet or self-help
philosophy cannot provide true hope for mankind. Only the
Gospel has the power to transform lives, to resurrect failing
marriages, to heal racial tension or to resolve any social ills you
can think of, for the Gospel is truly the power of God. The answer
is full surrender to God through a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ.
And so in THIS church, the Gospel will be preached
In THIS church, the Gospel will be preeminent
In THIS church, our focus is on making disciples,
introducing them to the risen Christ who can change their
lives and helping them to grow in relationship with Him.
Elder David Eichstedt sharing the first of two vision messages for CEFCM.
Pastor Jason will be sharing the second message on November 1st at 10:45am.

Should a Chrtistian
Celebrate
Halloween?
Every year without fail someone asks me this very
question. So I wanted to share with you this
Biblical and balanced response from our friends at
Got Questions (gotquestions.org). My hope is
that though it you will be your questions will be
answered, you will be educated, and most of all
encouraged to use every opportunity you have to
love your neighbors. ~ Pastor Jason
Whether or not Christians should celebrate
Halloween can be a very controversial topic.
Some Christians celebrate Halloween simply by
dressing up in a costume and having fun, seeing it
as innocent and harmless. Other Christians are
equally convinced that Halloween is a satanic
holiday established to worship evil spirits and
promote darkness and wickedness. So, who is
right? Is it possible for Christians to celebrate
Halloween without compromising their faith?

In Old Testament Israel, witchcraft was a crime

punishable by death (Exodus 22:18; Leviticus
19:31; 20:6, 27). The New Testament teaching
about the occult is clear. Acts 8:9-24, the story of
Simon, shows that occultism and Christianity don't
mix. The account of Elymas the sorcerer in Acts
13:6-11 reveals that sorcery is violently opposed
to Christianity. Paul called Elymas a child of the
devil, an enemy of righteousness and a perverter
of the ways of God. In Acts 16, at Philippi, a
fortune-telling girl lost her demon powers when
the evil spirit was cast out by Paul. The interesting
matter here is that Paul refused to allow even
good statements to come from a demoninfluenced person. Acts 19 shows new converts
who have abruptly broken with their former
occultism by confessing, showing their evil deeds,
bringing their magic paraphernalia, and burning it
before everyone (Acts 19:19).
So, should a Christian celebrate Halloween?

Halloween, no matter how commercialized, has

almost completely pagan origins. As innocent as it
may seem to some, it is not something to be taken
lightly. Christians tend to have various ways to
celebrate or not to celebrate Halloween. For
some, it means having an alternative Harvest
Party. For others, it is staying away from the
ghosts, witches, goblins, etc., and wearing
innocuous costumes, e.g., little princesses,
clowns, cowboys, super-heroes, etc. Some
choose not to do anything, electing to lock
themselves in the house with the lights off. With
our freedom as Christians, we are at liberty to
decide how to act.

Is there anything evil about a Christian dressing

up as a princess or cowboy and going around the
block asking for candy? No, there is not. Are there
things about Halloween that are anti-Christian and
should be avoided? Absolutely! If parents are
going to allow their children to participate in
Halloween, they should make sure to keep them
from getting involved in the darker aspects of the
day. If Christians are going to take part in
Halloween, their attitude, dress, and most
importantly, their behavior should still reflect a
redeemed life (Philippians 1:27). There are many
churches that hold "harvest festivals" and
incorporate costumes, but in a godly environment.
There are many Christians who hand out tracts
that share the Gospel along with the Halloween
candy. The decision is ultimately ours to make.
But as with all things, we are to incorporate the
principles of Romans 14. We cant allow our own
convictions about a holiday to cause division in
the body of Christ, nor can we use our freedom to
cause others to stumble in their faith. We are to do
all things as to the Lord.

Scripture does not speak at all about Halloween,

but it does give us some principles on which we
can make a decision.

Church of Mahomet

As many of you have already seen via

Facebook, email, and at church on Sunday, the
nursery construction is nearing completion.
If you havent had a chance to see it stop in and
see it, please do, because it is exciting! Even if
you dont have kids walking through the rooms
will give you a sense of how to pray.
This is important because we dont do anything
without asking god in prayer for guidance. So
join me in praying all the more now time how
God will use this space for His glory! Just this
past week we had someone commit to pay for
the Bibles we will make available to this ministry.
PRAISE GOD!
We also purchased new teaching materials from
the Gospel Project that will make the gospel
teaching even clearer and more intentional. This
material includes activities, worship, and lessons
just like a VBS, but this one runs all year long in
our Nursery area!
Considering we have over 98 kids in AWANA
and new families in the church with children
every weekend, I believe that God is giving us a
taste, just a taste, of what is to come! So we
need to prepare NOW for the harvest.
I want to thank every one of you who came and
and shared in painting, pulling up carpet, laying
concrete and loving one another in service.
In the same way, thank you to ever one of you
that prayed for the ways Jesus will be found
in the hearts of kids through this revitalized and
re-engaged ministry.

The Elders of CEFCM have been very busy

behind the scenes meeting, praying, discussing,
and discerning Gods leading in the life of our
church. In addition we have been repenting and
looking at ways that we have not led well enough
and can lead and love people better.
This past Sunday and on November 1st, at
10:45am, we will be taking a short break from the
Prophet Isaiah, and presenting two messages
which will clarify the vision and mission of our
church going forward.
The Elders want to encourage you to be there for
both services so that you can hear and see what
God has been birthing. We are praying that
together we will see God grow His vision in
greater and greater ways.

In Addition...
There are regularly
scheduled Elders Meeting
every month. If you need
prayer or an opportunity to
discuss an issue with the Eldership please feel
free to attend this meeting by emailing the Elders
