2015

From Mrs. Matz

Fall is upon us!!! While we bid goodbye to warm, sunny days,
we welcome the coming of Fall and all it has to offer. The
crunching of leaves beneath our feet, cool, crisp mornings,
and the beautiful foliage are a few of the offerings that we
enjoy. While there are many things I enjoy about the Fall, one
of my favorite activities we do here at Fostoria City Schools
happens in the month of November! If you have not joined us
in previous years for our Annual Community Dinner, I would
encourage you to do so this year. This amazing event
features a wonderful menu including all of the trimmings for a
traditional holiday meal and is a fantastic way to kick off the
holiday season, while enjoying time with family and friends
from throughout the Fostoria community. I hope to see you
and your family there on November 25th. The dinner will be
held in the FJSHS cafeteria from 11a-1pm!

PE News
We have recently finished our Fall
Fitness Testing. Your child will eventually
bring home a goal sheet with suggestions
to improve their score for the Spring
Fitness Testing. Encourage your
child(ren) to work everyday at home to
help them meet their goals. Habit #2:
Begin with the end in mind!

Band Concert
The 5th and 6th grade bands have been
working hard this year. Please join us on
Thursday, November 19th at 7:00 pm in
the FIES Gymnasium for their first
concert of the year. Students should
arrive by 6:45pm and are to be dressed
in campus wear. Please come support
our band students who have been
working hard this year!

Focus on The
Seven Habits
Habit #5
Seek First to Understand, Then to
be Understood
What this means:
Listen before you talk. In order to
communicate effectively, we must first
understand each other.
How can I do this in my life?
1. Listen.
2. Put yourself in the other person's
place.
3. Notice a person's body language,
tone, and reflection in their voice.

Leaders of the Month

Habit #6
Synergize
What this means:
Working together is better. The whole
is greater than the sum of its parts.
How can I do this in my life?
1. Write down 3 things you are good
at. Then write down 3 things
someone in your family is good at.
2. Watch a sports game and notice
how the players work together as a
team.

Each month, one student from each homeroom is chosen to be

recognized as the Leader of the month. Students may receive
nominations from their teachers, other staff members in the
building, as well as their peers. Individuals are nominated for
exemplifying one or more of the 7 Habits. The students chosen as
the Leader of the Month are invited to a special luncheon with one
of our local leaders. During the luncheon students are individually
recognized by reading their nomination form(s) and are presented
with a special I Am a Leader at FIES shirt. Each month, a group
photo will be taken to be displayed in the cafeteria as we begin to
build our FIES Wall of Leaders. Congratulations to our September
Leaders of the Month pictured above and a special Thank You to
Mayor Keckler for being our first local leader guest!
