Arctic outbreak
special weather statement
in effect for Nicola

Environment Canada is warning that

the first Arctic outbreak of the season will
bring cold air, snow and difficult winter
driving conditions to the Southern Interior of BC, beginning today.
An intensifying upper trough of low
pressure over the Pacific will develop into
a deep upper low near the Washington
coastline by Tuesday morning. As the Pacific system approaches, snow will spread
over the Southern Interior Monday.
At the same time, an Arctic high pressure system in Northern BC will intensify and push Arctic air southward. By
early Tuesday morning, the Arctic front
will be traversing the Southern Interior.
As the coldest air of the season so far arrives, temperatures will fall, windchills
will worsen, and locally there will be
poor visibility because of the snow 515cm possible by late Monday.
The storm will end by Tuesday evening
and the Southern Interior will settle into a
4-6 day period of chilly but otherwise
weather-less winter days. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and
warnings as they may be required or extended: www.weather.gc.ca

BC Hydro has finished building the

new 247-km, 500-kv Interior to Lower
Mainland transmission line. It is a major
upgrade to BC Hydros bulk transmission
system, the first in more than 30 years.
The new line crosses mountains,
grasslands, major rivers and highways,
from the Nicola substation to Coquitlam.
BC Hydro awarded the construction contract in 2011 to Flatiron Graham Joint
Venture and construction began in the
spring of 2012. The initial in-service date
was October 2014, however the contractor faced scheduling pressures and,
based on feedback, BC Hydro pushed
the in-service date to late 2015. The final
cost of the line is expected to be $743 million about $18 million higher than BC
Hydros original budget of $725 million.

fair, Wreath Walk, Santa Land, Baillie
House bake sale, Festival of Trees and late
night shopping; Saturday continues the
craft fair, Wreath Walk, Festival of Trees,
Santa Land, and in addition a kids craft
project. Mandolins concession stand will
