poetry slam
Noted Vancouver Slam Poet and national Slam Poetry champion, Johnny
MacRae, will be giving a performance
and MC-ing a Poetry Slam that will
showcase local talent at the Merritt Library, on Wednesday Oct 19, 6pm.
This event will be a culmination of
three days of giving workshops to local
schools and the community. The event is
sponsored by MSS and the Arts in the
Classrooms program. Categories for all
age groups from grade 3 on up.

The realignment and paving of Douglas Lake Rd, approx. 40 km east of town,
is now complete.
This was an important infrastructure
project for the Upper Nicola Indian Band
and other users like the Douglas Lake
Cattle Company, as the straightening out
and paving this 4-kilometre section has
made travelling Douglas Lake Road
much safer. The re-alignment provides
better sightlines for drivers and safer
conditions, including paved shoulders.

Nicola Naturalist Society meeting presents Dr. Rob Higgins.Ants are one of the
most successful groups of animals on the
planet. Dr. Rob Higgins studies them at
Thompson Rivers University. An enthusiastic speaker, he will describe the diversity
of ants and their ecological roles in BC.

Merritt Chapters 3rd annual toy & Food
Bank ride & games/jumping event along
with the NV Riding Club, to help the less
fortunate in our community. They invite
all riders to ride with them, just bring a
childs toy & food bank donation. Prizes
for best-dressed horse & rider, adult and
also junior rider. There will be a hot dog
sale, 0 coffee & hot chocolate. All at the
