HAZARD ASSESSMENT IN MNS
UNIVERSITY OF ENGINEERING &
TECHNOLOGY MULTAN
HAZARD:
A hazard can be defined as any phenomenon or situation, which has the potential to cause
disruption or damage to people, their property and their services and environment.
HAZARD
capacitydisaster
vulnerability
NATURAL HAZARDS
Natural phenomena which pose a threat to people, structures or economic assets and may
cause disaster e.g High winds, floods, fires, volcanic eruption, landslides, droughts and
earthquakes are all natural hazards
HUMAN INDUCED HAZARDS
Conditions that may have disastrous consequences for a society. These are associated with
industries or energy generation facilities and include explosions, leakage of toxic waste,
pollution, dam failures. War or civil strife is included in this category
HAZARD ASSESSMENT
The process of estimating, for defined areas, the probabilities of the occurrence of
potentially damaging phenomena of given magnitude within a specified period of time.
Hazard assessment involves analysis of formal and informal historical records and skilled
interpretation of existing topographical, geological, hydrological and land use maps.
HAZARD MAPPING:
The process of establishing geographically where and to what extent particular phenomena
are likely to pose a threat to people, property, infrastructure, and economic activities.
Hazard mapping represents the results of hazard assessment on a map, showing the
frequency / probability of occurrence of various magnitudes or durations
PURPOSE OF HAZARD ASSESSMENT:
The purpose of hazard assessment is to specify the nature and behavior of the potential
hazards
and
threats people face.
DISASTER:
An event natural or man made, sudden or progressive, which impacts with such severity
that the affected community has to respond by taking exceptional measures
HAZARDS WHICH ARE LIKELY TO THREATEN IN MNS UET MULTAN
HAZARD
EFFETCS
TERRORISM
It is most probably hazard which can occure in
university zone .
HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
Any explosive or hazardous material present in
laboratory can damage the students if misused of
them.
ELECTRICITY SHORT
CIRCUITS
Almost Every room in university has this type of
problem that can create a serious threat to students as
well as teacher. Death may be occure.
DENGUE
Occurrence and probability of this disease is high
because there is no proper arrangement for this.
DEGREE ISSUE
It is one of major problem in university. University is not
registered in HEC list that can lead towards strike from
students
HEAT WAVE
Temperature of Multan remains high in summer as
compared to other city. So heat wave can take place in
university which is not good for students
THUNDER STORM
Likelihood of this hazard is very low but it can damage
the university building as well as students.
EARTHQUAKE
Death or injuries is common in case of earthquake.
FLOODING
Chances of flood cannot be denied in university
because Multan is present near the river Chenab.it can
destroyed the university building
POLLUTION
Bike & car parking in university can create pollution in
university because fuel creates pollution which is not
good for students health
RISK RANKING MATRIX
The Risk Ranking Matrix is used to assess the likelihood and the severity or consequences of
each hazard and to give it a risk rating

HIERARACHY OF CONTROLS
DISASTER MANAGEMENT CYCLE FOR TERRORISM
PRE DISASTER PHASE
Prevention
Govt should take responsibility that everyone should be educated and increase educational
capacity of country. Reduce the poverty from the country. these are some factors which lead
the people toward terrorism.
Mitigation
Armed forces of the country should take action against the people that are involve in
terrorist activities. Point out those people who funding them. Must keep operation like ZARB
E AZAB to eradicate them.
Preparedness
Police, army and other forces with latest equipment should be ready for such response.
Emergency response number should be provider to public so that in crucial situation they
call up the forces so that loss may be less in rapid action.
Warning
An intelligence agency is responsible for the collection, analysis, and exploitation of
information and intelligence in support of law enforcement, national security, military
objectives. Means of information gathering are both overt and covert and may
include espionage, communication interception, cryptanalysis, cooperation with other
institutions, and evaluation of public source.
POST DISASTER PHASE
Response
Emergency response (ER) is a prudent defense-in-depth measure regardless how small the
probability of a serious reactor accident or a terrorist attack. Response should be effective
and planned. Take care of public in case of response so that less death can occur.
Rehabilitation
Better medical facility should be provided for injured people and Govt should help financially
to the family of those people who died in attack and injured also.
Reconstruction
At last reconstruct the building and other infrastructure damaged in that hazard by state
COMMENTS
Hazard identification, risk assessment and control is an on-going process. Therefore,
regularly review the effectiveness of your hazard assessment and control measures. The
effectiveness of control measures can be checked through regular reviews as well as
consultation with Administration of university. Maintaining records of the risk management
process assists when undertaking subsequent reviews or risk assessments as it
demonstrates decision making processes and informs how controls were intended to be
implemented.
