financial returns for its shareowners by
providing
high
value-added
logistics,
transportation and related business services
through focused operating companies.

highest quality manner appropriate to each
market segment served. FedEx will strive to

its employees, partners and suppliers. Safety
will be the first consideration in all operations.
Corporate activities will be conducted to the
highest ethical and professional standards.
Economic downturn
The late-2000s recession hit parent
company FedEx Corporation and its express
division hard. Many companies looking for ways
to save money stopped shipping or moved to
cheaper alternatives, such as surface shipping.
FedEx Corporation announced large network
capacity reductions at FedEx Express, including
retiring some of its oldest and least efficient
aircraft such as the McDonnell Douglas DC-10
and the Airbus A310. FedEx also announced
layoffs and work hour reductions at some of its
hubs.
In December 2008, FedEx postponed
delivery of the new Boeing 777 Freighter; four
were delivered in 2010 as previously agreed,
but in 2011, FedEx only took delivery of four,
rather than the ten originally planned. The
remaining aircraft were delivered in 2012 and
2013.

Alaffia
In the Kotokoli language, Alaffia translates to,
its all good and is the typical response to the
question, How are you? For founders Rose
and Olowo-ndjo Tchala, Alaffia seemed like the
perfect name for their extraordinary company.
And when they chose a strategic provider to
help guide their shipping needs, they wanted
an equally exceptional company who embraced
their philosophy.

Performance review
The Express segment has been undergoing
many changes under the companys Profit
Improvement Initiatives such as streamlining
staff function and processes, air fleet
modernization, international profit
improvement, and yield management. During
4Q15ending May 31, 2015the segment
retired 15 aircraft and 21 related engines. It
has set the retirement schedule for another 23
aircraft and 57 engines. This has led to $276
million in impairment and related charges for
the segment. The inclusion of newer planes will
lower the maintenance and repair costs in the
future and boost the segments operating
performance
