INTRODUCTION
A road from working in a medical store to building plazas and developing much
more..
An Entrepreneur
A French word meaning someone who undertakes something, used to mean someone who
owns or runs a business.
Someone who risks their own capital in a business enterprise.
5

We see a person of 48 years of age, who lives in Islamabad with his wife and kids. His kids
studying in best schools and colleges, having everything they need.
He is the owner and the C.E.O of AL MOHANDAS Company also owns 2 to 3 shops one or
two plots a small factory etc., this is the materialistic view of his position but what matters
most is his standard of living. According to him what he earns he spends or invests in
business, he is not a person who has many properties or a huge bank balance but a person
who believes in having a better today than waiting or saving for tomorrow.
When we asked him if he always had money to do business or did he face some hardships
while reaching to the position he is now in, he took us back to where it all started and told us
his story of hard work and struggle and how he managed everything and took risks in order to
move forward in life and business.
We will share the story of a person who started working at the age of 17, an entrepreneur.
Born in Quetta, in 1967. He is the second son of the family and has an elder and a younger
brother along with 3 sisters.
The family in which he was born is quite vast and enormous having a numerous number of
persons doing various businesses. His family is well known in the area and people trust them
and feel satisfied while working for them or with them. Now we will state the story of the
entrepreneurs work tenure.

Well I guess the story should be started from the educational back ground of our entrepreneur
in order to have an idea of his knowledge and skill

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
According to the entrepreneur in the times when he was born education was not given much
preference and especially the area in which he was born was the least educated or the
percentage of illiteracy was quite high in whole of Baluchistan province.

So our entrepreneur being a part of the same area and time was not able to get professional
education or degree that would have definitely helped him in reaching the position much
efficiently.

The entrepreneur stated with regret that he cleared his bachelors exam and was not able to
carry on with his studies due to various reasons,
Most important of which is the factor that education is not given much importance in that
area and the same was the case with our entrepreneur, he thought that pursuing for further
education is of no use as he was a kid at that end of his educational career. Now we will tell
you about the work experience of our entrepreneur.

Work Experience
Although the entrepreneur started working at the age of 17 but his first project that he
supervised or worked on was when he was about 23 years of age and he is still working so we
can say that his work experience is about 25 years till this date and he is still motivated and
will be working with hiss full capacity and energy even forward on.

Entrepreneurs plans before going into business

Now comes the real story that we have been waiting to tell you all from the beginning of this
profile review

How it all started..

At the age of 17 he was going to college and he would spend his spare time or any time he
could get in the medical store owned by his father.
He would work in the medical store and would study for bachelors at the same time he was
working almost all of his remaining time in the medical store.
The basic purpose of working in the store was to help out his father but as his father would
give him some payment each week so it was also a means of earning for him.
He worked from 1984 till 1994 in that store. The plaza in which the medical store was, was
also owned by the father of our entrepreneur. Alongside the store there was an old house
owned by the family of entrepreneur located quite near to the store.
The father decided to renovate that house and construct more rooms in it, he wanted to
convert that house into a hotel. Entrepreneurs father decided to construct some more shops in
the plaza and to rent them out as well.
As Scott Belsky co-founder of Behance said Its not about ideas. Its about making ideas
happen.

Thats what exactly our entrepreneur did, this was the first project that the entrepreneur took ,
he had no plans of working in the construction business or so but while he was working in the
store he got acquainted with many people out of whom many were builders and contractors
and plumbers and electricians etc.
We all know that the basic thing that distinguishes or characterizes a person as an
entrepreneur is the way he looks at something and finds the window of opportunity in that
thing, the way an entrepreneur uses his capabilities and himself as an asset for his benefits
The same happened with our entrepreneur while working in the store he saw an opportunity
in what his father had decided, he knew that the location is very near to the store and he can
manage both jobs at a time so he went forward and asked his father to give him the contract
of building the hotel and the shops. He assured his father that the work will be done on time
and as per requirements.
His father trusted him and encouraged him to take the step and the risk and thus gave him the
contract.
He demolished the house and the plaza and hired people to construct the hotel and the shops,
he completed the whole building in three years and delivered what he had promised, in the
tenure of three years he managed all financial issues, labor issues and everything related to
the construction of the building.
Although this was a great step for the entrepreneur but it was not so economically for him as
it was a family project so it was out of the question that he would take any profit from his
own father so he was not given any profit directly but as working on this project he definitely
saved the expense of a contractor for his family.
This building served as the building block of the career of the entrepreneur which led to many
other businesses.

The acquaintance that the entrepreneur hired for making the windows of the building
approached him and offered him a partnership in aluminium windows and doors
manufacturing business.
Entrepreneur told him that he has no equity to invest in the partnership and definitely no
knowledge of aluminium and the lot, he didnt know or understand anything about the
business, but, as the acquaintance named Manzoor Ahmed saw how the people of that area
trusted and was willing to work with the entrepreneur and his family so he asked the
entrepreneur to just be a partner without any investment just the name of the entrepreneur and
his family would be enough for Manzoor as he would be able to get contracts in the name of
the entrepreneur and would give the entrepreneur a share in the profit.

The entrepreneur agreed to this partnership but he was not reluctant to just give his name to
the partnership so he would go to the workshop and would sit there learning how the work
was done he wanted to learn as he saw an opportunity in the business and wanted to grab it.
After a while the entrepreneur and the partner bought a factory on credit basis which they
called aluminium agency and with the contracts or the projects that they took they were able
to pay the installments of the agency.

From all the way to Islamabad..

In the meantime the entrepreneur got married and after learning the basics of business he saw
that the market was not too good for him so he moved to Islamabad with his wife and two
daughters and a son at that time.
He took a loan from of rs.300000 from his uncle and he took the risk of coming to new area
and new place to start his own business of aluminium, he was not sure as he was not very
experienced in the business still he trusted his instincts and took the step anyway.
He put up a setup of aluminium and got his first project that was in Karachi company G-9
markaz the plaza named as Ramzan Plaza in which now there is Tehzeeb bakers. He
manufactured and fabricated windows for that plaza and called his workers from Quetta to
help him in the installments and fittings of those windows.
10

This was the first thrust he needed to work forward and thats what he did
He understood at a very early age that nothing can be done or achieved without taking risk
and without working very hard for it so that became his motto
Take a risk and then put your life in the project
This project led to many others such as
Hamza towers in F-11 Islamabad a residential project.
Two huge projects in Faisalabad known as the burj and Centre point
A project in Rawalpindi city Centre bank road.
Midway centrum 6th road Rawalpindi
A project in Taxila named as Kohistan Tower.
And many more
You will all be amazed to know that this was not the only business that he started after
coming to Islamabad he saw the opportunity of construction and development business in
Islamabad and the surroundings so he took an initiative and bought heavy earth moving
machinery such as excavators and bulldozers etc. ranging from rs.2500000 to rs.2700000 on

credit.
11

.
He would give that machinery on rent basis to contractors and within 6-9 months he paid the
full amount of the machinery to the seller. In the same way he bought 3-4 machines and was
managing two businesses at a time

A twist in the story.

The younger brother of the entrepreneur came to know about a new product for making
windows and frames etc. known as upvc, so he ordered a lorry full of upvc raw material and
asked the entrepreneur to pay the amount, the entrepreneur had no idea of the product but had
to pay whatever profit he got to the supplier and had to keep the material for which he had to
rent a godown.
. "It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." Conficius
With the same will and hope our entrepreneur waited and worked on
In first year there were no projects or success for the new product which had taken up all the
investment but gradually the market for the upvc emerged and slowly the projects came and
now its demand has increased very much.
The material of upvc is imported from turkey Europe and china its fabrication is done here
thus for the fabrication process entrepreneur established a small factory of about 1.5 canal
covered area which contains all the machines cutting welding etc. required for the fabrication
process.
Along with the increase in projects the entrepreneur established an office and a display center
for the upvc and aluminium products in G-10 markaz opposite high court.

12

Gradually the entrepreneur sold his heavy machinery after their useful life and concentrated
on the aluminium and upvc business
Along with this business the entrepreneur saw opportunity in the development society
business and also sale and purchase of plots. He bought many plots and sold them and the
profit was invested in the upvc business.
He worked in the developing societies business and is still working there and has acquired
containers of upvc from turkey which is a huge step towards success as the material is
available and the projects too such as
A huge project in Peshawar
A project in Islamabad F-6 school road
A project in Charsadah
Samples have been delivered to all these areas and the entrepreneur is hoping and determined
to avail these projects
So the entrepreneur thinks he is on a very successful road and it was all due to his taking
initiatives and the risk of coming to new place and working in new business and not letting
go of any opportunity that he could grab.

ACQUIRING RESOURCES

13

As we have described in very detail that at the start of his business the entrepreneur had no
capital of his own
He started his business with loan taken from his uncle and the rest of the business was done
on credit basis, but he worked hard and returned the loan and paid all payables in time and as
this business is mostly credit based so the financing and the resources utilized are also credit
based.

Human resource used..

The start of business was with the entrepreneur and two labors which has now extended to
almost 25-30 laborers employed.

MARKET ANALYSES OF THE BUSINESS

The business of manufacturing windows frames and the construction and development
business will always be in boom
As long as there are people there will be houses and buildings made, the increase in
Pakistans population is a sign that construction business will never be out of demand so there
is huge market for the entrepreneur and he will have a lots of scope and area to cover in order
to meet with the demand.

COMPETITION IN THE MARKET

According to the entrepreneur the trend of aluminum widows has increased to an enormous
level and thus the competition has increased too.
The entrepreneur told us that the number of fabricators has increased and now fabricators are
working on motorcycles and cycles and approaching clients and giving such low price level
that is almost impossible to compete.

CHALLENGES FACED BY THE ENTREPRENEUR

14

There were many challenges that the entrepreneur faced such as:

The first and foremost being the financial challenges as we described before that
when the entrepreneur started his business he had to take a loan and almost all of his
work was on credit basis so in order to manage his payables and receivables he had to
work very hard as he was new to the business and creating a good and trustworthy
image of himself was the most important thing to do in order to prosper.

The next challenge that he faced was that of acquiring resources and raw materials
according to our entrepreneur in any project the contracting party need to give the
entrepreneur about 30-50% of advance payment, it is necessary in order to get raw
material and pay and import them, most of the clients were not so happy about this
condition as they were not ready to pay in advance rather than they would prefer to
pay after the building is fully completed.
Next came the problem of the competitors our entrepreneur is a person who believes
in better quality but as it was clear that what others competitors focused on, is less
price rather than better quality thus he faced the problem of competing with such
people who were just concerned about their profit and not on the product that they are
promising
This problem was also on the part of clients as they dont think about the quality of
the product just on the price , from which ever company or fabricator they get the
lesser prices they will give the contract to that person regardless of the quality or the
product being installed.
The challenge that the entrepreneur faced with the upvc was that its raw materials are
to be imported from Europe turkey and china and raw material cannot be imported in
small amounts rather a whole full container which is very expensive and the projects
15

usually do not require the raw materials of a whole container that raw material is then
stored and if no project is available the raw material will be just a liability, an expense
The greatest challenge of all that the entrepreneur faced was moving from Quetta to
Islamabad. The level of risk in the initiative and the starting of business about which
he had almost no experience.

As Martin Luther King Jr. pastor, activist, humanitarian and Civil Rights leader has
said
If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but
whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.
The same is the belief of our entrepreneur, he shared all of his challenges with us and
then stated proudly that he faced all these challenges and was able to overcome them
with constant hard work and thorough planning.
The basic ingredient that kept him going on and overcoming these challenges was his
trust in ALLAH and determination and will to move on and to aim higher.

FUTURE OF THE ENTREPRENEURS BUSINESS

16

The entrepreneur was very positive and confident about his future and his business
future, as he has recently
Acquired two containers full of upvc raw material
Huge projects are lining up
The demand for upvc and aluminium has increased
Islamabad is becoming a city of many buildings and plazas thus the entrepreneur sees
bright future for his aluminum and upvc business
Thats not the only business he sees bright future for,
According to the entrepreneur the development of societies business is emerging and
the demand for more and more housing schemes is increasing day by day
As the entrepreneur is working on two huge society developing projects he is much
positive that opportunities will be there and he makes sure that he will be there too to
grab the opportunities.

17

CONCLUSION
We can gather from the interview and the things that the entrepreneur told us that if
we want to be successful we must take risks look for the opportunities grab them and
work hard for them.
We must take initiatives and no matter what challenges we face we must try to
overcome them with our trust on Allah and then on ourselves, only then we can be
determined and will have the will to go on
