Brgy. J.P. Laurel was formerly called Barrio Casulgan a
name given by the original settlers which originated from
Camarines provinces like Olip, Lagunda, Cobol, Bobier to
mention a few names. The name Casulgan was derived
from the strong river current of Bobon River passing the
said barrio.
Formerly it was a growing sitio of Acereda and
because of tis easy accessibility by boat and raft
transportation it became the center of copra buying
business and the emergence of many sari-sari store
establishment catering to the needs of the interior
barangay of Bobon like Acereda, Trojilo, Abad Santos, and
Calantiao to include also Brgy. Bocsol and Guba of
Catarman turning Sitio Casulganan to the progressive
barrio of Bobon way back year 1946 after the liberation.
During the time of Mayor Pio Merida, the name
Casulgan was changed officially to Brgy. Jose P. Laurel. To
date, when the motorboat become the means of
transportation, the progress in business and farming
greatly increased which attract other business to the place
investing their capital in copra buying activities.
When Acereda Feeder Road become functional and
operational, land transportation in the 1990s, Brgy. Jose P.
Laurel in the former location across Bobon River diminished
both in population and business endeavor for most of the
people transferred their residence permenetly along
Acereda Road to avail some of the basic amenities like
easy transportation via motorcycle, plying from Acereda to
Bobon and the availability of the NORSAMELCO
electrification.
To date, Brgy. J.P. Laurel is 8 kilomoters away from
the town proper and it can also be reached by motorboat
