Parts of Speech
Parts of Speech are basic types of word in English. Parts of Speech divided
into eight :nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, conjunction, preposition,
interjection and article.
Noun

A noun is naming word (person, place, thing, idea, living creature,


quality, or action.
Example: Police, airport, knife, house

Verb

A verb is a word which describe an action.


Example: think, run, read, cook, talk, want, drive

Adjective

An adjective is word that describe a noun.


Example: fast, fat, thin, hansome, slow, quick,

Adverb

An adverb is word which usually describe a verb.


Example: tomorrow, anywhere, mostly, hightly, honestly, kindly,
everywhere

Pronoun

Pronoun is used instead of noun, to avoid repeating the noun.


Example: I, you, they, we, he, she, it

Conjunction

A conjunction joins two words, phrases ar sentence together.


Example: if, so, therefore, because, or, and, yet, as result.

Preposition

A preposition usually comes before a noun, pronoun. It joins the noun to


some other part of the sentence.
Example: on, in, by, with, under, throught, at

interjection

An interjection is unusual kind of word. Interjection are words which


express emotion, surprise and followed by exclamation marks/
Example: what!, look!, hurry!, Ouch!,

Article

An article is used to introduce anoun.


Example: the, a, an

Characteristic of A Sentence, Clause, Phrase and Syllables.


1. Syllable
A Syllable is abasic unit of written and spoken language. It is a unit consisting
of uninterrupted soaund taht can be used to make up word.
Example: 1). A word Book has one Syllable
2). A word Career has two Syllable Ca/reer.
3). A Word Expensive has three Syllable Ex/pen/sive
2. Phrase
Prase is two of group of word that does not contain a Subject an a verb. The
combination of words can be noun-noun or adjective-noun.
Example: 1). Beautifull girl
2). Car engine
3. Clause
Clause is a group of word taht contain at least a subject and verb. Thera are
two kind of clauses, Independen clause and dependen clause. Independen
clause contain a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought and it can
stan alone as sentence by itself. Dependen clause cannot stan alone. It begin
with a subordinator suck as when, while, if, that, or, who.
Example: 1). Independen clause
- Jember is a region city
2). Dependen Clause
- where i was born

4. Sentence
A Sentence is a groups of words that contains a subject and verb and express
complete thought.
Example: He will come to the party with me tonight

Simple Present Tense


We use simple present tense to explain about facts and thing that true for a long time:
Formula : S + V1
Example : He will come to the party with me tonight

Simple Past Tense


We use Simple Past Tense to explain something in the past,which is finished
Formula: S + V2
Example: Iqbal finished his asigment last night.

Present Perfect Tense


Present Perfect Tense expresses the idea that something happened (or never happened)
before now, at an unspecified time in the past.
Formula: S + have/has + V3 + O
Example: Tomi has finished the game Assassins Creed.

Passive Sentence
Passive sentence is an Active sentence becomes to passive sentence. In the passive,
the object of an active verb becomes the subject of passive verb.
Formula: to be + V3 (past participle)
Example :

Active: Tomi has finished game Assassins Creed .


Passive : The game Assassins Creed was finished by Tomi.

Complex Sentence
A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent
clause. A complex sentence always has a subordinator such as because, since, after,
although, where or when or relative pronoun such as that, who, or which.
Example: Jember is a region city, where i was born.
Blue as Dependent clause.
Red as Independent clause.
