hlins RXF34 - TTX MTB Fork

Tuning guide - Air Spring

hlins front fork RXF34, implementing TTX damping technology. Specifically designed for Specialized Camber,
Stumpjumper and Enduro, and equivalent high-end 29er trail/AM bikes. Parallel and separated oil flow control the
pressure levels, ensuring initial smoothness and staying high in travel with maintained bump absorption, traction and
stability. Three air chamber system, two positive and one negative. Contrary to most of the forks available on the
market, the shape of the spring force can be adjusted, such as increasing sensitivity without bottoming out. No
spacers needed, all adjustments are external.

The stand alone Air Spring cartridge located in the right fork leg.
It features three chambers:
1 Main Chamber: controls the spring rate at the beginning of the stroke and gives you mid-stroke support.
If you think the fork is too stiff at the beginning of the stroke, or too high riding position, reduce the
pressure in the Main Chamber. If you dont get enough support from your fork or getting too low ride
position increase the pressure in the Main Chamber.
2 Ramp Up Chamber: controls the spring rate at the end of the stroke. If you are bottoming out too easy,
increase the pressure in the Ramp Up Chamber. If you cant use the full travel, reduce the pressure in the
Ramp Up Chamber.

Before using the fork the first time, we recommend you to take
some time to tune the Air Spring. The Air Spring is an important part
of the fork and the set-up determines how controlled and safely go
can ride.

3 Top Out Chamber (Negative chamber): works like a top out spring. The top out chamber is self
equalised, meaning the ride position will be the same, for both light and heavy riders.

Tuning guide - Air Spring

When setting the sag, make sure to open up the High speed
compression and low speed compression. Turn the adjuster
anti clockwise until stop.

This procedure must be performed on a flat surface. Do not jump or bounce on your bicycle
as it will result in an inaccurate sag measurement.
Setting sag:
1. Unscrew the cap to the lower valve (Ramp Up Chamber) and mount the air pressure
pump. Pump to desired pressure. Disconnect the pump and put the cap back on.
2. Unscrew top air cap (Main Chamber) and assemble the air pump. Pump to desired
pressure. Remove the air pump and reinsert the compression air cap.
3. Set the O-ring (sag indicator) at the position according to illustration.
4. Dressed in full riding gear assume normal riding position on the bicycle.
5. Step off the bicycle and measure the distance the O-ring (sag indicator) has moved. Sag
should be set to approximately 10-15 % of the fork travel.
General recommendations:
too little sag: release air from the main chamber
too much sag: fill up with more air in the main chamber
General recommendations:
Heavy hard charging rider may require less sag while a smoother rider may benefit from more
sag. If you have any questions, contact an Authorized hlins MTB Service Center for advice.

When adjusting or checking the pressure in the Ramp Up Chamber,

some of the air will fill up the pump. This means the pressure will be
reduced up to 50 psi every time you put on a pump.

Tuning guide - Air Spring

When setting up the air spring, increase or reduce air

pressure with 5-10 psi at the time.

Suggested air pressure

Compress the Fork minimum 10 times to fill up the Top out
chamber, check the pressure again in the main chamber and
fill it up if necessary.

Tuning guide - Air Spring

Increase your mid-stroke support by

increasing the pressure in the Main Chamber.

If you bottoming out too easy.

Increased pressure in Ramp Up Chamber and
make the spring curve more progressive.

If you cant use the full travel.

Reduced pressure in Ramp Up Chamber
and make the spring curve more linear.

Chamber and 200psi in the Ramp Up Chamber

Increase the sensitivity, without bottoming out?

Reduce the air pressure in the main chamber and
increase the pressure in the ramp up chamber.
The Air Spring is now softer at the beginning of the
stroke, but will give support at the end.

Chamber and 200psi in the Ramp Up Chamber

Is the fork generally too soft?

Increase the air pressure both in the Main and
Ramp up chamber.

Is the fork generally too hard?

Reduce the air pressure both in the Main and
Ramp up chamber.
