Course Description
This introductory course provides you with a practical and qualitative appreciation of aircraft
systems which enable them to function safely and effectively.
Key areas of study:
Airframe systems; including hydraulic, pneumatic, and environmental control systems etc.
Aerospace avionics; navigation, flight control computer, warning systems, air traffic
management etc.
Aircraft electrical power systems

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development


Upon completion of this course you should be able to:
Identify and analyse common types of on-board systems carried by aircraft, and their
respective functions
Differentiate the basic air traffic management systems utilised by aircraft
Communicate at a technical level with aviation service providers, such as maintenance
organisations and air traffic control about aircraft systems related issue

This course develops and assesses the following program learning outcomes:
Problem-solving and design:
Demonstrating information skills and research methods.
Abstraction and modelling:
Apply abstraction, mathematics and discipline fundamentals to analysis, design and
operation, using appropriate computer software, laboratory equipment and other devices,
ensuring model applicability, accuracy and limitations.
