MBA (Industry Specialisation)

BRIEF COURSE
DESCRIPTION

sustainable development. The industry is tightly interconnected with human society;
physically, socially and economically. As such its management is critical, requiring
accomplished managers to lead the development and implementation of sound management
practices.

12 units

Marine Environment and Management - 27D

Maritime Technology and Management 27E
Shipping and Maritime Management 27F

These courses are designed to provide both existing and potential middle and senior
managers with management knowledge and expertise which can be applied in the key
industry specialisations, the marine environment, maritime technology and maritime
operations/maritime industry operations. The focus is on an applied approach to these key
sectors of the maritime industry, centred on strategic and analytical thinking, providing a
unique educational experience.
These industry specialisations provide a platform for students who wish to combine the
knowledge and skills delivered through the Maritime and Logistics Management MBA
program with discipline specific units offering practical application within the marine
environment or the maritime industry.
The courses aim to provide graduates who are able to make major contributions to senior
decision-making to maintain and enhance the marine environment and/or the maritime
industry now and into the future.
Students have two options for each of the Industry Specialisations Option A is a pure
coursework program and Option B includes coursework plus a final dissertation. Both options
include some compulsory units. Refer to Pages 5-7 for details.
On successful completion of an MBA (Maritime and Logistics Management) program, which
includes a dissertation component, applicants may pursue a program of research by applying
for a Master of Philosophy, leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
