ABSTRACT
The present dissertation is intended to help us acquire:

General knowledge concerning the evolution of outboard engines used on vessels

Specific knowledge concerning the basic principles of operation of outboard engines

Technical information about various types of outboard engines

Technical information concerning the individual parts of outboard engines

To that end, Chapter 1 refers to the methods of installing an outboard engine, the selection of the right
height as well as the advantages and disadvantages of installation height. Chapter 2 discusses the
advantages of a 4-stroke engine. In Chapter 3 the description of the technology related to the 2-stroke
engine is provided. Chapter 4 provides an analysis of the cooling system and the way the coolant flows
inside the engine. Chapter 5 provides an analysis of the exhaust gas system during engine operation both at
midle and high speeds as well. Chapter 6 provides an analysis of the lubrication system and the means used
to achieve this purpose are also referred to. Chapter 7 discusses the fuel system and the components that
comprise it. In Chapter 8 the starting up system is analyzed. Chapter 9 explains the battery charging system
as well as the individual systems of which it is made up of. Finally, Chapter 10 refers to work and actions
needed in order to ensure proper maintenance and efficient operation of the outboard engine.
