Chapter 4 Videos
There are numerous technologies to assist students with learning disabilities inside and outside of
the classroom. One example of assistive technology is the adaptive keyboard. This keyboard is
large, mobile, and assists by filling in words when certain letters are pressed. This minimizes the
amount of keys that need to be pressed, as well as helping with spelling and saving time. Another
form of technology that assists students with learning disabilities is a braille writer. A braille
writer looks similar to a type writer, and is primarily used for math. There is a more efficient
form of braille writer for writing sentences with a voice output and also allows for edits and
overwrites. A few techniques when working with English learners is to speak slow and
pronounce every letter, create organizers for information, provide students with partially
completed concept maps, and support your lessons with many visuals.
