A. Bacterial
Name: Chlamydia

Prevention:
Use condoms during sex, or condoms and dental dams during oral sex.
Symptoms:

For women, symptoms may include:

burning while urinating

vaginal discharge or a change in normal discharge

bleeding between menstrual cycles, or during/after intercourse

increase in pain during menstruation or during intercourse

abdominal or lower back pain

occasionally causes fever and chills

For men, symptoms may include:

itching of the penis

pain while urinating

discharge from the penis

in some cases, there may also be pain or swelling of the testicles

For women and men, symptoms of rectal infection may include:

Testing:
Testing for chlamydia can be performed using a:
Swabbing of the infected area (cervix, urethra, rectum)
Urine sample
Treatment:
Chlamydia can be cured with antibiotics.
B. Viral
Name: Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Prevention:

Nickname: HIV

Use condoms during sex, or use condoms and dental dams during oral
sex.
Symptoms:
Constant weight loss/fatigue
Night sweats
Loss of appetite
Constant diarrhoea
Recurring yeast infections
Testing:
The testing could detect the virus in the body within a few weeks to
even six months.
Treatment:
There is no cure for HIV, but there are some treatments that are
helping people with HIV live longer.
C. Parasitic
Name: Pubic life

Nickname: Crabs

Prevention:

Avoid sharing towels and clothing that have not been washed.
If it cant be washed, vacuum it.
When trying on underwear or a bathing suit at the store always
wear something underneath.

Skin irritation and inflammation accompanied by itchiness and


redness.

Small blue spots on the skin where lice have bitten.

Louse feces, fine black particles, in the infected persons


undergarments.

Testing:
A healthcare professional looks at the infected area with a magnifying
glass or looks at a sample through a microscope to check for the crabs
and the eggs.
Treatment:

Use non-prescription shampoo for that area

A fine-toothed comb/fingernails can be used to scrape the eggs off


the hairs

Clothes, bedding, and other possible contaminated items should be


washed in hot water or dry cleaned, or bagged for a week
o Items that cannot be washed or bagged should be vacuumed
