The course objectives include the Sarasota County Benchmarks for American History 8th
grade curriculum.

Classroom rules and procedures:


The rules and procedures have been designed to protect the rights and safety of every
student and to ensure that a meaningful learning experience is provided. Standard school
board and school policies are enforced in this classroom. (See handbook)

Respect for individuals: Demonstrate respect for the teacher, for other students, for
guests and for the classroom. Conversation must stop when the teacher is speaking.
Respect for the classroom: Do not write on desks, tables or walls or in textbooks. Treat
computer equipment with care. Leave your work area clean.
Ask for permission: YOU MUST GET TEACHERS PERMISSION to use the
bathroom, books, or to write or erase anything from whiteboard or Activboard. The
bathroom should be utilized between classes and during breaks. However, if absolutely
necessary, one student at a time (this includes the adjoining class) may use the bathroom.
Absences: Students are responsible for getting all class notes and making up all
assignments. Students will be given an equal number of days that they were absent to
complete all assignments.
Tardiness: Students must be in their assigned seat and ready to work prior to the bell
ringing.
Cell phones: Cell phones may not be used for texting or calling during the school day.

Be prepared: Students will need their planner, folder, pen, pencils and paper each day.
Be responsible: Turn in assignments on their due date and study for assessments.

Grading Policy
Grades will be calculated using the following formula:
50%= class work, homework and team tasks
50%= assessments
Students and parents should make a weekly check of the Crosspointe grading system
located on the Sarasota County School Board web site under the parent tab.

Grading Scale
A= 90-100
B= 80-89
C=70-79
D=60-69
F=0-59
