Welcome to Introduction to Drawing and Design. Over the next fourteen weeks you will make over a
hundred drawings. Each week I will introduce a visual theme and present a slideshow of images relevant
to that theme. In class I will introduce materials, concepts and techniques for drawing. We will draw from
the still life, live models, photographs and design lessons. Assignments, readings, and the slideshow are
posted weekly on the class website.
CLASSROOM PRACTICES: Be prepared by bringing your supplies to every class. Learn from your
classmates by looking closely at their work. Participate fully by arriving to class focused and alert. Clean
up after yourself every time. Turn your cell phone OFF when you arrive. While you work, try to let your
curiosity outshine your anxiety. A missed class does not excuse missed homework.
CLASS SUPPLIES: Purchase your supply kit at the bookstore. Additional supplies like manila paper, ink
and paint are covered by your course fee and shared by everyone. I will point these out and distribute
them as needed.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: This is a studio classthe importance of your attendance can not be
overstated. Punctuality and attendance are recorded. Absences will lower your grade.
GRADES: Your grade is based on your attendance, in-class drawing, weekly assignments and a final
project. For exceptional work you will receive an A grade, for average work a B grade, and for minimum
effort of low quality, a C grade.
If you have any concerns about this course, please schedule a meeting with me. Additionally, if you have
