Film trailer

conventions
A2 Media

Action sequence

When the trailer begins with an action sequence

this often helps draw viewers in and makes them
want to see more.

Institutional Information

Most films list the institutes that have helped

produce and fund the films. These can show up at
any point but usually its at the very beginning of
the trailer.

Sets up the confrontation

Often trailers will set up some kind of bad guy/

good guy confrontation. Its not always as clear cut
as this but some form of confrontation between
characters will be set up.

Music

Depending on the genre of the film, the music in a

trailer will vary in pace and tone. However, all film
trailers usually do have some form of background
music to build excitement and invoke certain
emotions in viewers.

Reviewers comments

Comments from reviewers about films are often

used in film trailers in order to invoke a sense of
excitement and to show that the film has already
been pre approved by reputable sources. This
works especially well in films with lower budgets
who need as much exposure as they can get for
their films.

The film trailers I have

looked at

The film trailers that I have identified all of these key

conventions in are, Concussion, The Revenant and
