Title: VRGA: A Virtual Reality System for Gross Anatomy

Background of the Study

Statement of the problem
This proposed system is primarily concerned to show information about the
macroscopic structure and organization of organs and organ systems.

Specifically, it answers the following problems:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Visualizing organs and its systems are difficult.

Using textbooks and videos for learning anatomy is boring.
Using cadavers for dissection for Gross Anatomy is too costly
Use of cadavers need a facility to properly and maintain them, which is costly.
Use of cadavers can lead to health problems as exposure to embalming
chemicals have been shown to affect human health.

Objectives of the Study

The study aims to design and develop a Gross anatomy learning tool using Virtual Reality for
students and teachers especially in the field of Health Sciences that will introduce a new way of
learning.
1. The researchers intend to collect and review information about Gross Anatomy.
2. To develop the system and provide supplementary tool in teaching and in learning
Gross Anatomy.

Significance of the Study

The system will give a new learning tool for students in learning Gross Anatomy part by
part in a more effective way. This system will avoid the disadvantages of using a cadaver for
dissection.

Scope and Limitation

This research focuses on the development of VRGA. The system only covers
Gross anatomy which is only a part of anatomy. Moreover the system will provide
selection for every organ system; the system will also give the name and details of
every part given; and the system will also provide a multiple choice type questions
as an interactive way of learning.
