Past Continuous:

Affirmative form:
Subject + was/were + v(ing)
Negative form:
Subject + wasnt/werent + v(ing)
Interrogative form:
(wh) was/were + subj. + v(ing) . ?
Use:
1- Action in the middle of happening at a stated past time.
E.g., I was living in Spain this time last year.
2- Past action in progress interrupted by another past
action.
E.g., I was playing football when I broke my ankle.
3- Two or more simultaneous past actions of certain
duration.
E.g., He was cooking while she was sleeping.
4- Background description.
E.g., They were travelling to Swansea.
