SIMPLE PAST

- The simple present tense is used*:


 To talk about a completed action in a time before now.
- The time of the action can be in the recent past or the distant past.

- Affirmative syntax
Pronoun + verb (past simple form – regular or irregular) + complement

- Negative syntax
Pronoun +Auxiliary + not + verb* (infinitive form) + complement
Ex: She + did + not + play + football / I + did + not + drink + coffee / They + did + not
+ swim + in the sea.
She + did + not + have + a headache yesterday
I + was + not + in Cartagena last year.

- Question syntax
Auxiliary + Pronoun + verb* (infinitive form) + complement + ?
Ex: Did + she + play + football? / Did + you + drink + coffee? / Did + they + swim + in
the sea?
Did + she + have + a headache yesterday?
Were + you + in Cartagena last year?
