BULLYING: What You Can Do About It

By: Daphne Morielle A. Zaportiza

He came home and went straight to his room without saying a hi or a

hello as he normally did when he got home. His mother was shocked then
her maternal instinct told her to knock on her sons door but to her surprise
he shouted behind the closed door - leave me alone, a few hours later, he
said mama I want to die. This is a story told by a mother whose son had
been bullied in the school.
Bullying is the act of intimidating or mistreating somebody weaker or in
a more vulnerable situation. It may be in a form of verbal and physical
abuse, rumor-spreading, cyber attacks, racism, social exclusion, tsismis,
sexual aggression, identity crises, peer pressure and the like and it may
happen anywhere. Its sad to know that bullying may exists in the place you
dont expect like in the home, in the church and in the school. These places
are where values are being taught but sad to say that there are parents and
teachers and even religious leaders doing this without knowing that they
already hurt somebody. They are the people you less expected to do it but
are happening in reality.
Studies reveal that bullying can lead to depression and worst is - it may
lead to suicide. Everybody must be careful in dealing with these weaker
individuals. Sometimes in your eagerness to help, the more they felt that
they are worthless and the more they will stay away from you. Parents and
teachers should be responsible enough to know the signs that children had
been bullied and should be wise enough to help before the situation will
become worst. Always asking why, what happen will not help and
more with nagging but making involved in his activity and letting him
involved in your activity can help much with constant approval and
appreciation to his little accomplishments. Bullying cant be controlled
especially from his classmates or playmates but if theres somebody he can
run to and willing to listen to him, the effect of bullying will be reduced.
Some children may have a difficulty in coping with the pressure of this
current world and when it is not properly managed, it will make them a
weaker individual.
Children and teens must be healthy physically, mentally, emotionally
and socially and if one of these aspects will be abused then his whole

personality will be affected. So help them develop the positive outlook in life
so that they will know how to respond to negative situations positively.
