Some basic knowledge of mathematics and calculator. Excel
will be helpful.
Subject Aim
1.
To acquaint students the whole process
of probability and statistics.
2.

To familiarize
statistics and their applications.

theory

Syllabus outline
Statistical method and concepts, data and plot of data (histogram, box-plot,
line chart, etc), skewness and normality test. Population and Sample.
Random variable and probability distributions (discrete and continuous).
Probability mass function (pmf) discrete: Uniform, Binomial, Poison, etc.
Probability distribution function (pdf) continue: Uniform, Normal, t,
exponential, chi-square, F, Gamma, Weibull, etc. Expected value and
variance.
Estimation and hypothesis, and confidence interval (CI).
Regression and correlation. Regression analysis: simple linear regression

(SLR) and multiple linear regression (MLR). MINITAB Software and R


Package. Applications will be given throughout the course.

There will be two assignments. The answers should be
submited by the due date/time. Late submissions will
be penalised. The students are encouraged to help
each other to learn the course material. However, they
must write their answers to the assignments
indepedently. Any assignment showing evidence
copying will not be marked and the students will be
penalised.
