Title: Functions of Macromolecules
Description: Students will identify the functions of the major macromolecules.
They will demonstrate their understanding by creating an analogy.
Materials needed: books
Prior to Assessment: Students should know what the macromolecules are.
They may not comprehend the importance of these molecules.
Time Needed: 1 class period
Hook: Have the following lists on the overhead. Ask students to describe how
each could be similar.

Stomach
Heart

Cafeteria
Main Office

Teacher Procedures:
1. Students are to create an analogy between something of their choice
and the macromolecules (lipids, proteins, nucleic acids,
carbohydrates).
2. As background they should first write down the functions of each
molecule.
3. Next they should create their analogy.
4. They should draw this analogy on a piece of paper.
5. Students should share their analogies with the class.
6. Give students are short quiz on the functions of the 4 macromolecules.
