This lesson plan aims to teach students how to punctuate direct speech. It begins with a card sorting activity for students to identify correctly and incorrectly punctuated direct speech examples. Students then discuss in groups why examples are right or wrong and teachers provide brief feedback. The teacher then quickly explains direct speech punctuation rules and conventions, models correcting examples that were previously wrong, and has students summarize the rules in short phrases and through a picture.
