Proceedings

The student nurses was tasked to assess inmates in the city jail.
When they arrived at the city jail they immediately proceed in the
working area and prepare the paraphernalia's to be used and make
sure that everything is set such as the weighing scale and tape
measure that will be used in taking the height of the inmates. After
the inmates have took their height and weight, they will proceed to the
assigned student nurse that will be assessing them. Two student
nurse will assess one inmate by which means, one of the student
nurse will interview and the other one will be assessing the patient
using the given guidelines which is written in the inmates form and
also the Gordons functional health pattern. The whole assessment
will took 30-45 minutes per inmate. Only 3 inmates per pair was
assessed because it is only allowed in the city jail to do the
assessment in the morning because in the afternoon it will be the
visiting hours for the inmates. When the assessment was finally done
the student nurses have their post conference together with their
Clinical Instructor and one staff from IPDM. Feedback, evaluation and
sharing of each others experience will be discussed in the post
conference. The student nurses went back to school to input their
data on google drive and finish other requirements related to the duty.

Findings (Summary;

According to the results based on the gathered data,


15 out of 18 are found alcohol drinkers, some of them
can tolerate, some cannot. Results also shows that
majority of them started drinking alcohol at the age
ranges from 13-18 years old, same age as they started
taking drugs. Majority considers SHABU as their
primary use once a week and marijuana as secondary.
The frequency of drug taking ranges from 5-7 times per
week. Generally, the assessment also shows that
inmates were current smokers and stopped more than
a year already. As we proceed to the medical check-up
on arrival, 6 out of 18 inmates are found the have a

prickly heat rash and indicate that this was due to the
unhygienic environment that they have, some
abnormal result was also found these are productive
cough, back pain, numbness, cracking of nails, poor
capillary refill but the disorder in the integumentary
system was identified as their major concern based on
the data gathered.

applying their learning from school.
> Collaborates properly and works as a team.

> Inmates can able to answer questions properly in a
good manner.
> Inmates looks forward for the result of the gathered
data to answer their health needs.

Environment
> The area is well ventilated and somehow appropriate
for the activity.

Recommendations

Students
>The students should bring common medicines for
fever and cough, antibiotics, ointment and cream for
rashes, anti-bacterial soap and other hygiene supply
needed by the inmates

Inmates
> We should conduct seminars that talks about proper
hygiene, health prevention and how to cope up in life

Environment

>The leaders should divide the inmates by group for


cleaning the surroundings to maintain cleanliness and
orderliness.
> They should have proper schedule in taking a bath to
avoid problems and for them to avoid smelly odor and
getting skin rashes.
