Whose mistake is this?

My cousin brother- a small kid who is studying at class five- came to my house to
prepare for his second terminal examination. His next exam was of computer
science. I was busy at my work so I asked him to do self-study for a while. After
some time, I heard him rotting his book, web server is the . I was amazed- a
five grade student reading about web server- so, I went to him, grab his book and
asked him, now say, what is web server?. He was quiet. When I asked him to
explain it in simple Nepali language, he could not. He did not even know about that,
what is it and what its significance. Its only significance was 2 marks at exam. If
you think that my cousin is weak at study, then you are getting me wrong. If you
ask him a story in his English book, he can tell you the story without stopping. The
problem is in our method of teaching or curriculum, not in the students like my
cousin.

I am currently doing my A levels majoring in Science. We study about web server in

Computer Science. Talking about myself, I understood what web server really is,
what are is uses and how does it work after reaching to my A levels. What I wanted
to say here is a five class student is too young to write about web server- I am
talking in context to our country. Either these kind of topics should be eliminated
from the curriculum or the schools must make students used to with these kind of
topics during their school life. As a support for computer science they keep
computer practical class once or twice in a week. What they are taught is, how to
paint and how to use MS word. And how can we expect the children to write about
the web server in the exam-with the knowledge of web server. The only way for
them is to rot the lesson. And the thing here to laugh is, most of the school and
educational firms- even parents and teachers- find this method the best one,
because their ultimate goal is percentage at exam. It is not that they do not want
their children/ student to learn, but their quest for papery results make the students
only to remember the stuffs, not to know them. This is not only problem in computer
science, but there are many such topics that students come up without
understanding up to their SLC. We should develop the curriculum with the context of
our country, our culture and the status of our schools. Schools must be able to make
the students learn the topics that are included in the curriculum, and if they cant,
they better close their organization. No they wont, neither any governing body
would ask them to change their method of teaching because they have 100% pass
at the SLC with most of the students getting grade over B.
We do not lack schools and educational organizations in our country, but we lack
the educational organizations who carry out the activities with the real value of
education. Whose mistake is this? Is this the mistake of the educational ministry for
not checking this chaos in educational system of Nepal or is this the mistake of book
publishers, who are not able to make the lessons according to the curriculum or is
this the mistake of schools that are only result oriented or is this the mistake of
parents like us, who spend thousands for their childrens education, but never make
sure that their children are really learning.
