Essential Standard - Science 3.E.1. - Recognize the major components and patterns
observed in the earth/moon/sun system

Planets app

Grade Level 3rd grade

I will use this app to teach my students about the

solar system and order of the planets.
Pros: Students will be able to view the solar system in 2D or 3D.
Students will be able to view the globe of planets and moon and
they can touch with their fingers to rotate the planets.
Cons: Since the students are able to move the planets, they
may get them out of correct order.

I will use this app to teach my students about

Earth and other planets in our solar system.

Pros: This app contains over 200 interactive images.

There are 20 pages of illustrations included in this app.

Cons: Although this is a great app, it is not free.

observable patterns of weather that occur from day to day and
throughout the year.

Kid Weather app

Grade Level Kindergarten

I will use this app to teach my students about different

kinds of weather we experience in our area. Students will
be able to learn about rain, snow, sleet, etc.
Pros: With this app we will be able to
chart weather for a week or a month.
Cons: This app includes a Fahrenheit and Celsius
calculator that kindergarten students don't need in
order to meet this standard.

Grade Level Kindergarten

I will use this app to teach my students about current

weather conditions in our area. Students will be able to
see on the app through the living room window what the
weather outside is like.
Pros: This app will show students the different types of weather and the
temperatures for the day.
Cons: This app also teaches about time, which isn't necessary
to meet this standard.

Math Standard - 3.NF.2 - Understand a fraction as a number on the

number line; represent fractions on a number line diagram.

I will use this app in my classroom to help students

learn about estimating where fractions would fall
on the number line.
Pros: This app keeps students entertained while
learning about fractions, which to some students
may seem like a boring process.

Cons: This app doesn't assess a student's progress.

Math Standard - 3.NF.2 Understand a fraction as a number on the number

line; represent fractions on a number line diagram.

I will use this app to teach my students about fractions.

In class we will draw the fractions on a number line.
Pros: Students can use the fraction wall to assist
them in answering questions or they can answer
multiple choice questions.
Cons: Although this is a great app, it's not free.

Essential Standard - Social Studies - 5.C & G.2 - Analyze life in a

democratic republic through the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

I will use this app to teach my students about the

Constitution and the Constitutional Convention.
Pros: Students will be able to play games, work
puzzles and take quizzes about the Constitution, as
well as view 3D interactive models.

Cons: This app also has information about the Supreme Court,
but that's not linked directly to this standard.

Essential Standard - Social Studies - 5.C & G.2 - Analyze life in a

democratic republic through the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

the bill of rights app

I will use this app to teach my students about the Bill

of Rights and the information contained in this
document.
Pros: Students will be able to learn about
the information contained in the Bill of
Rights in an interesting way.

Cons: Although this is app contains information

about the Bill of Rights, it's not as interactive as
some other apps.

Grade Level 5th grade

Essential Standard - Language Arts - Key Ideas and Details - 3. With prompting
and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story.

raz-kids app

I will use this app to help students become better

readers. This app will help them become
accustomed to reading books on an appropriate
skill level.
Pros: This app has the capability of students
being able to record themselves reading at
home and the teacher can play it back to see
how the students performed while reading
these books.
Cons: I like everything about this app.
I don't know of any disadvantages.

I will use this app to help my students

learn new words and to read more
fluently.

Pros: Students can help Alpha Pig find

missing letters in words. They also get to
learn about rhyming words.
Cons: This app also has a feature where students can trace letters.
This is a great feature, but it is not directly linked to this standard.
