Procedures:
Attention getter: Boy and girls we are going to read, If You Give a Mouse a
Cookie.
*Give each child their own book to read along with you and the
CD. (CD and player on red table at the front of the classroom)

What you will do to teach the concept(s): Students will learn print awareness by
flipping through the pages of the book. They will be able to retell the story with a
mouse they make to their peers.

Guided practice: Students will listen to instructions about how to cut only on the
dark black outer line of the mouse and to glue the black tail on. (Supplies on red
table)

We are going to make a mouse today, you should only cut on


the solid black line. (outline with your finger)
Show and outline which part of mouse the different shapes
are.

Ask the students questions like where do we cut? Where are


the ears? Etc. (ensure they have it right)
Place the example mouse underneath the projector at the
front of the classroom. This allows the students to answer
their own questions by looking at the finished product.
Teacher will roam the room to ensure students
understanding of how to make the mouse and answer
questions if they need help.

Independent practice: Each student will complete their paper by cutting and
cluing the M words inside the mouse.

Specific assessment: The completed worksheets from the day.

VIII. Closure: Place their new books for them to keep and take home in their
mailboxes and have them retell the story of, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie to
their neighbor.
