Reaction Paper: Drug Prevention Seminar

Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero once said Kabataan ang pagasa ng bayan, but
in the present this particular phrase is quite questionable. The youth of today clearly has
lost its path towards being the future of our nation. And one of the reasons is because of
drugs. Drug abusenowadays has no age bearing, be it adult, teenagers or even
children. Drugs can cause different abnormalities to the one using it, making changes in
an individuals behavior. That is why the present administration has specifically eyed
reforms in this increasing rate of drug abuse in our country.

Last October 15, 2016 our beloved Pamantasan conducted a seminar specifically
about drug prevention. Mr. Julie P. Tarrayo an obvious supporter of our present
president is the speaker. The former said something about Prevention, Intervention and
Limited Engagement and Supply Reduction Campaign. A campaign for people who are
abusing drugs and for the people who are considering to use drugs. The speaker stated

some statics about how much percentage is the drug abuse in the Philippines,
specifically Muntinlupa. The speaker also discussed the possibility of legalizing
marijuana and how he is seriously against it. He also explained how drugs are made
and how it can affect an individual. I love how he cited how our president is a blessing to
us and how his campaign on war on drugs has brought us only good things. Actually I
am only kidding when I said I loved his talk.

Mr. Tarrayo the speaker of the

seminar

As Mr. Tarrayo proceed to his talk yes he made some points about how drugs is
really a big problem to our country, about how drugs really affects us. But most of the
time I hardly think that this seminar is really to educate or give information to the
students. Yes he explained some pretty serious things but his comments about the
governments critic really did it for me to lose interest in his talk, because the speaker is
just saying things to make the present administrations war on drugs flawed less. He
even said that he pity those who questions how the present administration is handling
this war on drugs, it is as if he is implying that when someone questions he
automatically being classified as against. This is saddening and alarming at the same
time, saddening because as a speaker you must educate your listeners about facts let
them think and make their opinions not give them your opinions and making it look as if
it is a fact, alarming because what if many people has been fed with this personal

opinions and believing them as if it is the truth this can lead to wrongful disseminating of
information. The speaker made some intriguing about a specific and very controversial
personality, Sen. Leila De Lima. I am not a supporter of the latter nor a hater, I am
neutral about her, but the comments he made about Sen. De Lima is very disturbing as
far as I can recall Sen. De Lima is still not proven as the head of drug activities in NBP
then why he is broadcasting in a seminar as if Sen. De Lima is already proven guilty? Is
this what educating the youth means? Conditioning their minds to something that is still
in the process of identifying the fact? I frequently watch the news so I am pretty
confident about what I know but how about the other youngsters in the seminar? All I
can say is that this is pretty alarming. If I am to put my personal opinion on the present
administrations war on drugs, I really am happy about how serious our government is
about eliminating abuse of drugs in our country, but base on the number of many are
killed in the past months I came to a curious wondering how many of these people is
really a drug addict and how of them is innocent? As much as I want to support the
administrations campaign the number of many were killed are pretty serious. I just hope
that it is really justice should prevail and due process is necessary.
