Observation Activity Reflection
In the beginning, I believed this observation activity would not be as hard as it looks.
Observations take a lot more critical-thinking, active listening, attention, and time than I
expected or planned for. I learned that in order to make good observations it takes a lot of
undivided attention and time to observe the little things, which gives you a bigger picture. One
of the big difficulties I had with this activity was developing a good thesis and staying objective
when writing down my thoughts or ideas. Due to observing my roommates I find it harder to stay
objective than if I observed random peoples study habits in the library. However, I felt as though
observing someones quiet, personal comfort zone demonstrates more accurate study habits.
My advice to others is that staying objective and attentive is very important in making
observations. I learned this the hard way by finding that my bias ruined the best observations and
my credibility. I wish I knew that observing strangers would be easier than observing those you
know. I thought if you knew more about the subject already it would help, but in some instances
it hinders the project. Therefore, I hope to, at the end of this project, deliver an unbiased and
informative podcast for my audience.
