Petar Kolundzic began his internship by gluing wood strips together to create boards at a workshop in Liverpool, NSW. He gained experience in preparing by using annotated sketches to guide the gluing process and in matching grain patterns, which is important for turning due to forces applied. Petar also learned to glue the strips as flat as possible using scrap wood and clamps. This activity provided a positive learning experience and knowledge of grain structure importance for turning to avoid snapping.

Today I began gluing the strips together to create the boards Today I gained experience in preparing beforehand by having annotated sketches to help guide the gluing process. Also I gained experience in matching the grain of each piece as this is important when turning the timber on a lathe due to the forces that are applied while the timber is turning. With this I have also acquired how to glue the strips as flat as possible by applying scrap timber on each end with clamps to keep a flat surface on each end.

How might this
activity impact on the internship outcome
This activity impacts on the internship outcomes in a positive
learning experience. I gained knowledge in the importance of the grain structure in timbers facing particular directions for turning reason as they may affect material to snap from the glued counterparts.
