On Sept em ber 11, 2016, in the City of El Cajon,

BASIC TRAINING
On Sept em ber 6 t o Sept em ber 9, Basic Training took place as a way for
new cadets to learn the basics of drill. This happened after school, from 2:45 to
3:45, as each cadet was divided into sixteen squads, led by the returning cadets of
the previous years. Each squad had friendly competitions between each other to
motivate the new cadets. By the final day, the LET 1's were challenged to a game of
Tap Out where six cadets won PT shirts for outstanding drill performance.

Considered one of
the best JROTCs in the San
Diego Unified District, Morse
JROTC introduced the six
teams that represented the
respected program. Team
Orientation is an annual
event that allows the teams
to preform and a chance to
recruit new members to
their team by showing off
their best routines. This then

allows the encouragement

of the cadets to be more
involved in the program;
most of the teams not
needing experience to be a
part of.
The six teams
consists of Color Guard, led
by c/ CSM Tiong, Armed, led
by c/ MAJSanchez,
Unarmed, led by c/ CPT

Velasco, Drum Corps, led by

c/ MAJGary, Youth Physical
Fitness (YPF), led by c/ CPT
Parayno, and Academic
League, led by c/ MAJ
Seapno; the teams being
widely renowned within the
JROTC program.

Along with starting a new year

and a new SAI in Morse JROTC,
came two new teams to set an
eye out for. Archery, led by c/
SSG Archeta, and the Push Up
Squad, led by c/ CPT Runas, are
currently looking for members to
start the year off strong.

TEAM TRYOUTS
Fr om Sept em ber
13 t o Sept em ber 15, the
program underwent Team
Tryouts for the six teams
that represented Morse
JROTC. These teams: Color
Guard, Armed, Unarmed,
Drum Corps, Youth
Physical Fitness (YPF), and
Academic League, allowed
cadets try out for their
team, whether or not they
had experience.
Each day, the
cadets were encouraged
to try out for any of the
RO teams that Morse

JROTC had to offer.

Though tryouts had
ended a day early, the
cadets had figured out a
team they wished to join
and are eagerly awaiting
the day for when actual
practice starts as JVs.

performed for the visiting parents but also volunteered to show and
guide them to their student's classes; should they ever be lost. The teams
