Learning priority: Development of a sense of others

Today at An-Nur I noticed Samir

colouring with Abdul Hadi. The boys
were sitting at opposite ends of the
table but were communicating with
each other in a mix of a little bit of
English but mainly in Arabic.

Samir and Abdul Hadi soon came

across a problem, how could they both
get a pencil at the same time? I talked
to the two boys about sharing with
each other and that there were more than enough pencils for both of the boys to use. Samir
and Abdul Hadi then moved closer to each other at the table and were able to share more
easily with one another.

This month Samirs learning goal has been communication, through this learning goal Samir
was provided opportunities to speak one on one and learn simple centre rules.

While Samir was colouring, I also talked to him about colouring just on his own picture, not
on his friends pictures to ensure that he made his picture beautiful, and reminded him to
give all the children around him the chance
to make their own pictures beautiful as
well.

At An Nur, Samir will continue to be

provided with opportunities to continue to
develop and enhance his sense of others
through teacher initiated and child
initiated learning experiences.
