Curriculum in October
During the month of October, we will be moving deeper into our
math unit with larger numbers. Our focus will be on comparing
and rounding large whole numbers. In literacy, we have focused
on building reading stamina and finding good fit books. We will
be looking more closely to find details about the characters in
fictional books. We are also focusing on providing more details
when writing our personal narratives. In science, our class is
inquiring into how energy is created, what uses energy, and ways
energy is transferred. The students will be working together to
find possible ways we can conserve the energy usage at McKinley.
Fourth Grade Update
Field Trip - On Wednesday, November 9 th, the fourth grade class
will be taking a field trip to Champoeg State Park. Permission
forms are included in this Weekly Wednesday folder. This field trip
supports our inquiry unit and objectives to learn about the Native
American tribes in Oregon. I can only take 4 to 5 parent
volunteers. If you are interested, please let me know. Students
will need to have a sack lunch. If your child needs a school lunch
packed, please make sure to let me know on the permission form.

OBOB Oregon Battle of the Books

The Oregon Battle of the Books is getting started for the
year. OBOB is a wonderful way to encourage students to expand
their reading interests by exposing readers to a variety of genres
and difficulty levels. OBOB provides of list of 16 books, each team
member selects 8 of those books to read over the school year.
The teams will be decided soon, so please let me or Ms. Arun
know if youd like to participate. I plan to read one of the titles
aloud to the class while I fill in for Mrs. Roos.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or
concerns.
