Rising TIDE of Literacy

Park Elementary is participating in the district wide initiative of
creating a love of reading in everyone and the importance of
understanding what you read in all types of materials.
We will be conducting a STOP AND READ every week for 10
minutes where every person in the building, from custodians to
students, will stop what they are doing and read for enjoyment.
In addition to the STOP AND READ a monthly reading calendar will
be sent home with each student. This is where we need you! Please
make sure you:
1. Encourage at least 10 minutes of reading, five nights per
week.
2. You will be asked to initial each day your child reads and
record how many minutes they have read.
3. At the end of the month, you will be asked to calculate how
many minutes your child read for the entire month.
4. The calendar will be handed into their classroom teacher at
the end of each month.
Your childs calendar will be entered into a monthly drawing for a
variety of fun prizes. As a school, minutes read will be recorded and
our goal is to read 1,000,000 minutes by the end of the school year!

Virtue: Responsibility

Parents & Guardians: As you probably know

Flu season is soon upon us. This is just a
reminder to monitor your children and if they are
sick, please keep them home. Also teach them
about good hand washing as this will help with
the spread of germs.

Lice can spread very quickly in a school. Please

take every precaution to help prevent Lice from
spreading in our school:
Check your students hair every week.
Notify the school if your child has lice, so
the classroom that your child is in can be
checked.
Check your childs hair if they play sports,
attend a birthday party, or a sleepover.
Remind your students to not share combs,
brushes, and hats, with other students.
Girls should wear their hair up in a
ponytail.
