Strengths

Needs improvement

Uses a variety of activities

Strong ability to bring the class back to control
after an activity.
Use of small individual whiteboards.
The tr took a lot of risks with her lesson today,
trying redistribution of groups and use of diverse
activities.
Use of different grouping.
The class seems a bit more accustomed to
cooperation than last time, but are clearly in
need of more practice.
All places that the lesson broke down were
because of students not being accustomed to
this kind of learning and not any fault of the
teacher.

Group size is TOO BIG for all sts to be

involved in the activities.
Not all activities can be or should be done
as groups. Group work has different jobs,
or things that need discussion.
The differentiated activities are not much
different from each other in levels of
difficulty.
Integration needs to be through more than
mention to be effective.
Possible overuse of the award system.

Competency

Observations

Professionalism
:

The teacher was very calm and patient with the students.

Planning for
learning:

Extensive planning and preparation went into this lesson.

Implementing
and managing
learning:

Good class control and transitions from activities to explanations.

Monitoring and
assessment:

Monitoring was seen, documentation was not.

The tr has a sound understanding of how to execute a lesson with a minimal amount of TTT. She
has selected a variety of activities and works to keep students engaged. The students have
difficulty working together and are still very clingy and competitive, this is beyond the control of
the teacher.
The teacher does a good job of keeping the pace of the lesson vigorous, while still allowing time
to complete activities. She uses class space well.
The class has a good balance of whole class and group and individual work.
A lot of the teacher time and energy went to using the award system. Another student teacher
assisted with this during the class, but it still seemed that the teacher was more focused on
rewarding even the smallest achievements and not so much on the actual learning meant to be
taking place.
