LEARNING ACTIVITIES

1. Based on the lesson, what factors should be taken into account when selecting and
deciding teaching strategies to be employed for multi-grade classes? Give at least three
(3) factors. Why did you say so? Explain. (20 pts.)

Based on the lesson, one of the best strategy is the, Teach All Groups Together, here
you can choose which lessons or units should be taught to all students at the same time.
In this type of instruction, you provide the same content, use the same teaching and
learning methodology to transmit the content, and expect the same learning outcomes
from all students, regardless of their formally assigned grade but because you have
a multi grade classroom, you can have older students work with younger students for
better learning and to build a sense of classroom solidarity. One of the most effective
strategy is the Strategy 2 which is the Teach One Grade While Others Work
Independently, It may be beneficial to set aside a specific time during the day for each
grade level. Following a brief period of teacher-led instruction, one group can be left with
their peer tutor, or students can practice independently in their workbooks while you
work with another grade group. As needed, your teacher-led activities can be rotated
across grades and groups. To promote learning continuity, remind your students what
they are doing and why at the beginning and end of each teaching session. And lastly,
Strategy 3 which is to Teach One Subject to All Grades and at Varying Levels of
Difficulty This strategy allows you to group children of various ages, grades, and abilities
together and teach them the same curriculum theme at the same time. You can start
with common elements and then move on to differentiated tasks and activities.

2. In your own opinion, what factors must be considered in order to successfully use the
Mother Tongue as a medium of education in multi-grade classes? Cite at least two (2)
factors and justify your answer. (20 pts.)

In the Philippines, there are a significant number of multi grade classes. Teaching a
multi-grade class can be extremely difficult. Teachers are required to have effective
classroom management skills and a solid understanding of the lesson and, most
importantly, materials. Let’s start with effective classroom management skills. The key to
achieving a positive classroom environment is to develop and implement classroom
procedures. Procedures are routines that must be taught so that students understand
what is expected of them. Students can be involved in discussing the rationale for
establishing other procedures to govern their classroom in addition to arranging the
room and practicing moving into groups. Remember that consistency is the key to
effective procedures. If a procedure does not work, it should be discussed and modified.
If a procedure is required, it should be followed. Effective teachers understand what
activities must be completed and have established procedures for each of them. These
procedures should be posted or distributed to students at the start of the school year.
