Background: Social media has changed ways people communicate. Athough it brings
many positive change in society, there are also many negative effects in our lives,
especially on our childrens lives.
State the thesis: Parent should learn how to eduacate kids about social media today in
order to help them overcome threats of online social networking.
Outline: So, today I would like to talk about three main points: First point is that social
media is risky to our children. Second point is blocking kids from social media wont
solve the problem. Last point is parent should undertstand social media to educate
children

Transition: Let discuss the first point

State it: Social media is risky to our children

Explain: When accessing Inernet, children easily suffer from cyberbullying which is
combination of actions related to psychological pressure, insults, curse, violence
children on the internet
Prove it 1: Few days ago, 8-graded student in Pham Ngu Lao secondary school in
Khanh Hoa Province, named Ngc Hn, posted a status on Facebook on 7/10 If
reaching 1,000 likes will burn school. After one day, her status surprisingly attracts
more than 1000 likes. On 9/10, some people send her message on facebook enough
like, make it. They even threatened to beat if she did not do as her promise. And finally
she did it. Her legs were also burned badly in that unfortunate event.
Thing is thats just one of many others unfortunate events happened daily on social
media nowadays.

Prove it 2: According to a statistic conducting by European researchers, cyberbullying

is the most serious threat, which can lead to unintended consequences such as
psychological harm, mental illness and suicide. In the UK, every two children, a child is
a victim of cyberbullying. In Germany, the ratio is 1/5. How about us? Athough we dont
have any statistics about this issues, it happened a lots in recent years. We cant help
paying attention to this serious problem.
Conclude it: Its clearly that social network also can be harmful to safety of our
children.

There is two main reason for it.
Explain it 1: First reason is that all kids will eventually use social media; its just a
question of when. So, in stead of avoiding them, we can educate them about risks on
social media.
Explain it 2: Second reason is social media helps kid improve wellbeing,
communication, and sense of belonging in a group.
Prove it: In family, my 10-years nephews sometimes sent me messages on facebook
Uncle Phong, take me to cinema please. In school, he shared funny cute photos of his
twin sisters with his teachers. In society, my 12-years old cousin she can join piano
group on facebook and she said she learn a lot form. Social media is clearly the most
effective tools to get children get connected.
Conclude: So, we should not ban children using social media, but educate them.

Explain it: The main problem we are facing is the proportion of citizens over 35 who do
not use social media quite large. So they cannot teach their children how to use internet
properly.
Prove it: My parents, my uncles, my anties, and most of my friends over 35 they used
facebook. When I asked, the only thing they know is updating status, sharing photo.
Some of them can create facebook account. Most of them their daughter and their son
create facebook account for them. Thats it. And thats not enough. Most children
nowadays already know how to do that. For kids, what they should know more is:

Which type of photo they should public on facebook, which is not?

Should or should not post phone number in social media
Ask before they take photo, even they receive permission, ask before they post

it.
Kids eventually will see porn on social media. So they should know how to deal

with situation like if someone send them a sexy photo or videos.

Those things do not require technical knowledge. Parent can learn from it.

Why does parent matter our meeting? Because we have some people already got
married here. I also believe at least one of us will get married in the next 5 years,
especially some people just got new boy/girl friend here.
