It is a matter of proud for all of us that POWERGRID has grown into one of the best
managed companies in the world. It has constructed the largest network of extra high
voltage transmission lines. In fact the excellent quality in construction plays a very
important role both during construction as well as during operation and maintenance.
Construction Management Department has contributed significantly to implement the
best practices for construction of Substations as well as Transmission lines through
systematically prepared users manuals of construction which have played significant role
for systematic and quality construction, economy in construction as well as time saving.

If we glance through the initial period after formation of POWERGRID we see that the
employees of POWERGRID were drawn from various organizations like NTPC,
NHPC,NJPC, NPC THDC etc. They had worked in different cultures utilizing different
procedures at the time of joining this organization. For smooth and efficient functioning
of this organization and achievement of targets in the shortest time it was essential to
bring in an excellent culture and uniformity in construction practices. It was one of the
best ideas to constitute construction Management Department for the purpose. This
departments efforts in developing Users manual of Construction has paid rich dividends
during almost all construction of S/Station & transmission lines in a cost effective
manner.

In order to enhance the ready availability of manuals containing relevant technical know
how, various guidelines and procedures so as to facilitate the execution of job within
given time, cost, meeting the required quality standards, we have come out with a CD
containing details of all the manuals. Thus the manuals will be easily assessable to
